Hotel Riu Toureg Cape Verde

We are looking to book this for a winter break next year for a week in November/ December.

It’s a really decent price and actually cheaper than the AI in Gran Canaria that we were going to book.
Anyone been, and what was it like? I’ve heard it can be very windy, but so are the Canary Islands!
Thanks for any info.

We went a couple of years ago but stayed at The Melia Tortuga nearby, really nice hotel
The hotel you mention is very big and didn’t look like our cuppa and when the couch dropped off there before dropping us off I didn’t fancy it then either.
The island is pretty small and there’s not much to do so you tended to bump into the same people and there aren’t a huge number of hotels so we did meet quite a few people staying there and it was a mixed bag. The food wasn’t great apparently and the dishing room was a bit chaotic
We did love Cape Verde though, not much to do but great for a relaxing week and we did do a few day trips which we enjoyed. It generally felt very safe as well (even with a very blonde teen DD)

I saw some food poisoning cases in the press release this hotel. Probably unlucky to get it but I remember a TUI person telling me first criteria with a hotel is check food reviews. I have stayed at other RUIs where food is fine.

We were looking at this hotel a couple of years ago but came across some news articles about it which were horrendous. It might well have improved since then but if you google 'Riu Toureg holiday from hell' you should see the news articles.

Cheap is not always cheerful. Cape Verde remains very much under developed as an island.

my daughter and her husband went to that hotel a couple of years ago and she said the food was awful her husband got food poisoning
