hi there!

my dp and i are planning to spend few days away somewhere here in the uk. our dd is only 6 months old. we have also our lovely dog.

there are two options:

  1. rent something near the sea that accepts dogs. benefit: strolls along the water which is very soothing for all of us (including our dog).

  2. going to a really nice hotel that is baby friendly that we could use the spa, taking turns taking care of our dd. if the town where the hotel is located is cute, it would be a bonus. then our dog would stay with her aunt.

does anyone have any recommendations? im googling away here, but the keywords are so generic that i end up getting too many results. the closest idea so far: renting a cottage in whitstable, that is only 1 hour away from us.

What's the furthest you want to travel?
Ickworth House - near Bury St Edmunds is part of a small chain of family hotels that cater really well for children and babies.

You could check out their website.

Bury St Edmunds is lovely to walk around - shops/abbey gardens etc and it's not too far from Cambridge either.

The hotel is set in part of the National Trust Property. Not sure what your budget is but the hotel, if I remember, is quite pricey.

i forgot to say about distances! anywhere 2 hours tops from london is game for us. it sounds interesting what you suggested, checking on the web right now! thank you.

They've got a few other hotels but think they're more towards Dorset and the South West so further for you.

jabuti · 31/01/2008 20:38

it looks amazing, we are seriously considering it!!!! thank you luciemule

forgot to say, I'm sure they have an advert on MN and you can get a % off. It's usually on the home page where it says about center parcs etc.

luciemule · 31/01/2008 22:47

Actually, the blue box is at the top of this page.

luciemule · 31/01/2008 22:48

Nope was wrong - it's on my own threads page. For MNs you get a 10% discount.

or else wooley grange nr bath is nice, which is in the same group as ickworth, expensive though

jabuti · 01/02/2008 13:52

they are all expensive, but we are treating ourselves very much in need! i love the peak district but i have been there so many times when i was to live in the north... thank you anyway.

i tried using the coupon from mumsnet, then magically all dates are 'unavailable', cheeky monkeys!

Some hotels will take dogs - I've stayed in one in wales which did (maybe the dog slept in a kennel outside...)

jabuti · 02/02/2008 07:11

we have a little guide for hotels that accept dogs. its never the fancy/really nice ones unfortunately!!!!

we are all booked up : tuesday, wednesday and thursday on the ickwort house in bury!!! exciting! full massage for me on wednesday too!
