Flying to Australia: Economy vs Premium Economy

Flights from London are silly expensive due to taxes (and demand). I have two options.

Fly from Paris or Frankfurt in Premium Economy with Singapore Airways for about £1800. Or
Fly from London in Economy with Malaysian Airlines for £1400.

I'm based in the UK, so would take time and money (£100-£200) to get to Europe. Is it worth the extra expense for that far?

Singapore have been getting nefative reviews recently, where are you flying to. I would go premium, what about other airlines. What are the lengths of flights and stopovers for the 2 you are looking at.

I’d fly with SIA in premium. It’s been nearly 5 years since I last made that trip though so I can’t speak for their current levels of service.

Absolutely go premium and study the seat options on theseat guru website.

other airlines, like etihad or emirate from the UK are around £1800

I would choose emirates, you can see each airlines premium economy vs economy seats and service on youtube, some are only having the middle seat closed off. Where are you flying to. Some have very long stopovers and total flight times if thats important to you.

Which class?

Frazzled2207 · 21/11/2022 22:30

I’m out of date but Malaysia (no n) airlines are perfectly ok but Singapore are miles better. For a relatively small
amount extra I’d very tempted for premium via Paris or Frankfurt.

HappyHamsters · 22/11/2022 11:02

Where are you flying to, singapore airlines stopover is Singapore on many flights from London, why do you need to go from Frankdurt or Paris.

apricotconserve · 22/11/2022 12:57

Looking at flying into Melbourne. The reason I was looking at Paris or Frankfurt is simply for economic reasons. Flights from London are subjected to very high taxation (particularly in premium cabins, which Premium Economy counts as). In part, this means that flights from mainland Europe can cost £1000 less than the same flight from London.

We're flying Malaysia to Perth and they've got 3 rows at front of economy with an extra 4 inches leg room, we've booked those at about £50pp each way to kul. Seems a decent compromise. When we were booking though premium economy was a lot more.
