Hiya

qe have 2 weeks off at October half term and are trying to plan for next year. We were super lucky this year and went to Peru which was amazing! We were hoping to do a self planned Galapagos trip next year but flights v expensive and Ecuador is a bit iffy at the moment so may need to wait.
any ideas please? Our son is 14, we don’t want 2 weeks in the becak, we like to explore, it’s important to us that we use local companies too. Places we’ve been and loved are Cambodia, Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka.
really fancy Costa Rica but wrong time of year, Tanzania but too £££, Namibia maybe?, and Chile.
thanksnin advance.

Vietnam or Thailand

AriettyHomily · 21/11/2022 12:32

Zanzibar

Holidayqueen1 · 21/11/2022 13:33

Thanks both.
we’ve been to Vietnam and Thailand and loved them both but ideally looking for somewhere new.
zanzibar def on the list but flights are super expensive, maybe that will be the case everywhere?
has anyone been to Chile or Namibia maybe who could recommend a 2 week itinerary?

thank you!

Some friends of ours went to Namibia and loved it. They camped in the desert, went wildlife watching, did all kinds of cool stuff, but I've no idea who they used. Some adventure company I think - maybe Explore or something like that?

Have you done Mauritius? That’s good in October.

Thanks @maranella yes reallly fancy it!
Thanks ncft0922, yes been to Mauritius and loved it but not beachy for this hol.
thanks @HuntingHappiness , very aware of our carbon footprint so try to use KLM who have a very good sustainability programme or BA where we pay to offset.

Namibia was amazing vague highlights

Into windhoek
Down to sossusveli - death valley and dunes.
back northwards towards the coast to go and kayak with the seals
Inland and towards Etosha and waterhole hoping
Out towards the san people and wild camping
Back towards windhoek
Lots of scenery, lots of animals and safari.

We then went to Zambia and stayed in livingstone, but it was an addition that we could have had an amazing time without

Other trips we've loved and suit that time of year Jordan, Japan, China (we went in September thought), Egypt

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 21/11/2022 19:37

We are have booked but not been to Morocco (although we are going in May, not October)

I also plan on going to the azores, Oman, Kerala but not got there yet!

Holidayqueen1 · 21/11/2022 21:32

@dontcallmethatyoucunt i also see you’re skiing in Canada at Easter- whereabouts? We skied in Banff 3 years ago and it was amazing!
We’re going to Jordan in August (!) and Egypt on our list too.
Morocco is amazing, you’ll love it.
thanks for tips on Namibia, did you organise yourselves or through a tour operator?

@Holidayqueen1 we’re off to whistler. I was tempted to try Big White but got out voted!

We went to Namibia with Audley, but did do quite a bit of research. We stayed on a few different reserves before, during and after Etosha. A balloon flight over the dunes in the south was a highlight too and was beautiful.

Jordan was brilliant and the kids loved it. I assume you’re travelling around?

Holidayqueen1 · 21/11/2022 21:56

Whistler is amazing too, my sister lived there and skiing is out of this world!
Yes, we’re travelling around in Jordan, looking forward to it! Seems to be lots of adventures to be had. Last couple of places left to book which we’re doing this weekend ( going with friends so excuse for dinner together so we can plan!)

thanks again for Namibia tips, I’m really tempted.
