Signed new passport in the wrong way

I just got my renewed passport and quickly signed it, as it instructs you to do. Only afterwards, I saw that you're supposed to sign above the line. Stupidly, I've signed my usual signature, which I always underline as part of my normal signature - but this means that there's a diagonal line going through the printed "Holders signature" wording and below the proper line, as well as parts of a couple of letters in my name going below the line too.

Will my passport now be invalid and has anyone done anything similar?

I telephoned the passport office and they told me to email a photo of my passport signature and send it to a particular email address. So I've done this but just got back an automatic response saying that unless you've already got a 'registered query or complaint' your email will not be forwarded or read.

So now I've no idea whether the person on the phone registered my query and whether my email will get to the right person or not.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me if they've had trouble travelling with a passport where the signature isn't exactly how it should be? I've only been abroad once in the last 30 years, so am not exactly a seasoned traveller but I really really don't want to have a holiday stopped right at the start just because my passport signature isn't done properly.

Your signature is never checked.

CatGrins · 18/11/2022 14:07

It's fine

Cas112 · 18/11/2022 14:08

They won't check, it's fine

Mine isn't signed and they didn't notice . I don't think they even check the signature

Thanks! That's very reassuring and now I've also actually heard back from the passport office that as long as it's signed once and not twice, it'll be fine!

Now to think about a possibly trip abroad.....

Not sure how they particular they are about the signature in a British passport but when I got my US passport (I have dual citizenship) my wrist and hand were in a cast and my signature looks like a child signed it. Never had an issue. No one had asked to compare the signature with my drivers license or Social security card or anything.

Hi, i am also worried about my signature. What is the email address you sent the image to?

Thank you

I think my passport was about 3 years old and had been used for at least 3 holidays before a Spanish immigration person pointed out it wasn't signed. I don't think they rest look that hard most of the time.
