Passport application

i have realised that my sons passport has expired and he will need it within the next month or so for a school trip - does anyone know what the waiting times for return or passports are now? Thinking it would be safer (tho more expensive) for me to go to the passport office and do the week turnaround

It’s still 10 weeks I’m afraid

dementedpixie · 17/11/2022 13:37

I would do a fast track application if you need it within a month

DarkAndDusty · 17/11/2022 13:38

I just did my DC's renewal and got it back in less than 2 weeks. But maybe it takes longer if the passport has expired

Changemaname1 · 17/11/2022 13:43

I just did a replacement for a damaged passport and it took just shy of 2 weeks so not sure for other types of renewal

Fast track will give you peace of mind but it seems difficult to get an appointment

There is a website called something like passport wait times UK where people report how long there passport took / what type of application it was and they publish the statistics each week to give a rough idea

dementedpixie · 17/11/2022 13:45

I wouldn't want to chance a normal application with such a short amount of time before the trip.

BambooForDinnerAgain · 17/11/2022 13:45

Just got mine back in two weeks.

LightUpTheWoods · 17/11/2022 13:48

I sent my off yesterday - I'll let you know.

theemmadilemma · 17/11/2022 13:52

Less than two weeks for a name change (so renewal) this month.

theemmadilemma · 17/11/2022 13:52

That was an online application.

PuttingDownRoots · 17/11/2022 13:55

Fast track. School may want the passport sooner than trip date.

Theres appointments available this week

AllyCatTown · 17/11/2022 15:36

I did a renewal last week and got a message today saying it’s been approved and it’ll be dispatched soon. So I’d think likely you’d get it back in a month but it’s up to you to decide.

maddy68 · 17/11/2022 15:37

Mine took three weeks. It's so variable

AdelaideRo · 17/11/2022 15:38

I’ve just done fast track. Appt Monday. Passport arrived today.

Caspianberg · 17/11/2022 15:40

Mine ( name change renewal) took less than 2 weeks, back a few days ago. It said 11 weeks online when I applied. That’s was overseas application as well so several days in post

AllyCatTown · 17/11/2022 15:51

You might need passport number to book trip which will be different on new passport. Something to bear in mind as maybe need it sooner than trip date.

hairypaws · 17/11/2022 16:01

I just got mine back on Monday, took just under 2 weeks

Duplocrocs · 17/11/2022 16:13

Get the week turnaround where you go in person.
It’s pot luck and you can’t compare with others as until you make your application you don’t know which office your sending your passport to (it’s to do with how busy they are not proximity to you) then your application will either be approved automatically and come back quickly or be flagged to be checked in the manual pile which has a much longer wait time. Also I had a passport stolen out of a signed for envelope by Royal Mail and when I reported this seemed to be a fairly frequent thing. If that happens it holds up your application by months as it is so so hard to talk to the right people who can change your application type!
can you tell I had a bad experience 🤪

BookwormButNoTime · 17/11/2022 17:06

Husband’s took four days at the start of November. Done online, passport sent on the Monday, received by them on Tuesday and new one with him on Friday.

Sent my daughters off at the same time. Hers took 10 days. As children need their photo validating it does take longer.

I was amazed at how quickly they came back.

Tatapie · 17/11/2022 21:36

Mine was back within 2 weeks but I wouldn't risk it especially as school will want passport info soon.

Fedupofballs · 17/11/2022 22:53

Submitted my daughter’s on 29th October, passport received on 16th November.

PaulaTrilloe · 18/11/2022 01:20

I renewed online on Mon 7th Nov and it came back on Tue 15th. I used a digital photo service to ensure the photo was ok.
It cost £10 but the online renewal was £16 cheaper.

Friend did paper renewal and is still waiting

Renewed driving licence took 8 days so quite impressed!

AlwaysLatte · 18/11/2022 01:35

I wouldn't risk it. Fast track!

booksforever · 18/11/2022 20:29

I was amazed at the speed of mine! Online application Monday Eve,sent old passport Tues and got new one back today, Friday! I did pay extra for tracking and next day delivery for my old passport though. Excellent updates via email and text about progress.

arghtriffid · 20/11/2022 19:59

2 passport renewals came back in 2 weeks.

MermaidEyes · 20/11/2022 20:03
