Barcelona v Nice

After ALOT of too-ing and fro-ing, I've narrowed a trip for dh and I down to either Barcelona or Nice. I've been to Barcelona previously, dh hasn't. Neither of us have been to Nice. The trip will be in February, for around 4 days. We like to wander around & look at architecture and lovely things and would like nice food and a hotel with a pool. Other than that easy to please! Which one would you choose?

Barcelona without a doubt.

Thank you - can you give me some info on why you prefer Barcelona?

I agree, for what you're looking for Barcelona is provably a safer choice. Nice is great for exploring nearby beaches and relaxing in the sun but I didn't find it a particularly lovely city to walk around in terms of architecture (though the old towny bit was cool) and the food was a bit hit and miss.

Culture wise I think there's more going on in Barcelona as well, Nice is more about nightlife and beaches in my opinion.

I agree. I haven't been to Barcelona but in no rush to return to nice

We felt that there was a lot more to do in Barcelona. It felt more vibrant and creative, and less concerned about image. We found more interesting shops which we’ve never seen before.

Thanks for the replies, it's made up my mind I think. I don't suppose anyone has any hotel recommendations for Barcelona? I went around 15 years ago & stayed in a hostel type place - I want a bit of luxury this time!

Curveball: Valencia. I really like Barcelona (and Nice), but Valencia has the charm of Barcelona but without the mad crowds.

There are millions of hotels (and airbnbs) in Barcelona. What's your budget? I've recently stayed in The Corner Hotel (smallish boutique) and Majestic Hotel (grand traditional) both in the Eixample area. Both lovely

There's no way you'll swim in an outdoor pool at either location in February so remove that from your requirements!

apalershadeoflight · 09/11/2022 14:33

I'd go to Nice, personally.
There is just as much, culturally speaking.
Plus it's really easy to get around by train if you feel like a day in Menton or Antibes, for example.
I love French and Italian cuisine and in Nice you get both.

In February, Barcelona without a doubt. After Easter the crowds are unbearable and thus make it a place to be avoided, but Feb is a good time. Lots to do and see if the weather doesn't play ball either, whereas Nice is more about beaches with a pretty old town to walk round.

Can't imagine you'll be using a pool at either location in Feb though!

The Arts Hotel Barcelona is amazing. Luxurious and beautiful. The W is expensive, but more funky, cool luxury.
I'd choose The Arts for a romantic trip Smile

Thanks all, I meant an indoor pool sorry 😄Probably wouldn't do Valencia Howeverdoyouneedme as we've already been there. Budget is up to £800 but flexible. I know there's lots of hotels etc in Barcelona but it's nice to have recommendations, I've had a few disappointing holidays this year and really want something that feels like a treat. Thanks again for the recommendations so far.
