Christmas Day in Tenerife

We’ve (DH and 13 yr old DC) booked to go to Tenerife on 23rd December for a week staying in a resort half board. For those who’ve been to the Canaries over Christmas, do the hotels have a traditional Christmas dinner option and are there likely to be any special Christmas type activities in the hotels or resorts on Christmas Day? I know Epiphany in Jan is a bigger holiday in Spain and have only been to Spanish mainland from 27th Dec onwards.

You'll need to ask the hotel about what they are doing!

The Canaries in general are very British-focused and there will certainly be plenty of options for Christmas lunch etc. but they will not be the quality you'd expect in this country.

I was in Lanzarote and the hotel did a big spread for New Year, much fancier than their regular AI offering the rest of the week.

Last year, our hotel did a Gala Dinner for Christmas and New Year. Not all the hotels did though. Most of the restaurants were open as normal with their normal menu.

Traditional Christmas dinner (or lunch) for Brits will be different than the one for Italians ,or other nationalities , so most hotels have a special menu on that day, but it might not be your typical menu.

We stayed in Lanzarote one Christmas and did the whole Christmas dinner thing in the hotel, wished we hadn't bothered and gone for tapas instead.

We went once to Tenerife and never again. In the main it is a religious family time and quite low key in their attitude to holiday makers.
