I have a longstanding dream to visit Bora Bora, we couldn't do longer than two weeks, maybe close to three at a push. Would be travelling from Europe.

Anyone been, how is it ? is it absolutely exhausting with the jet lag? is it worth it.

My FIL said: it’s a beach.

He’s very well travelled though and not easily impressed.

If you like a world class beach, I expect it would tick boxes. Whether it’s worth crossing the globe for, we’ll that’s how much you like sand

I imagine one paradise island is much like another, but if you've always wanted to go and have both the money and the time, why not?

We went on honeymoon on the way to New Zealand. It was full of honeymooners endlessly trying to outdo each other in the “cutest couple” stakes. It was a pretty place, very expensive, lots of flies. But I’ve been to nicer places that were much more enjoyable. I also had a dream to go there. I’m pleased I’ve been and seen it for myself but I have no desire to go back, ever.

Thanks for the replies.

@BritWifeInUSA that's my concern, we would go all that way and realise that Maldives, Mauritius or Caribbean are just as nice, if not nicer, closer and probably less expensive.

Saying FP is 'just a beach' is just silly, IMO - like saying Greece is just a beach. FP is actually hundreds of islands that are spread over an area the size of Western Europe. The islands all have their own character and offer different experiences including wildlife, Polynesian history, culture and luxury if you want it. We have been to the Seychelles and Caribbean and found FP far more beautiful, safer and friendlier. It's best to do an island hop so you can experience the different character of the islands, Moorea is scenic, mountainous and low key. Raiatea is the centre of all Polynesian culture and is a must do (unless all you want is a 'big beach') Vahine is a true desert island and the most beautiful place we've ever seen in the world, Bora Bora is glitzy, wildly overpriced but if you can, stay on a luxury motu resort for even one night to see what all the fuss is about. We also enjoyed an inexpensive day trip around the main island to see where the US occupied the island in the war. Accommodation can be an issue because it can be difficult to find a mid priced but nice place to stay. We have been twice - and there are now a few new resorts like the Cook's Bay, Moorea - there is a brilliant guy called Tahiti by Carl on You Tube who knows absolutely everything about the region and posts weekly videos which are wonderful even if you just want to see the sun on a winter's day.

@themessygarden I hope you weren't put off. If you want to go, go. Audley Travel organised our trips but we'd do our own in future.
