Passport renewal?

Hi everyone, I had a child passport that ran out around seven years ago and have just applied for an adult passport as I am now 21. I still have my old passport and put in the details for it so will this be classed as a first adult passport or a passport renewal? Also because I've had a passport previously will i still need to have it signed off by someone e.g teacher or someone. I am posting them my old passport tomorrow but I'm wondering about the process afterwards. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I live in the UK.

Thanks! X

It will be a renewal. You only need a countersignature if you couldn't be recognised from the old photo. They may come back and ask for a countersignature but they may not. Its done by email so you'd need the countersignature's email address if you are asked for one.

I renewed my DD3's child passport this year to her first adult one. It was just treated as a normal renewal. No witness or countersignature was required.

I'm not certain if your 7 year gap will make a difference.

Do the online forms. Much easier and quicker and guides you every step of the way.

That sounds a lot easier with the emails, I did the online form and my old teacher agreed to counter sign if I needed it. She lives quite a while away from me now so it would save me a journey! Thank you for your response 😁

Did you renew as soon as her passport ran out?

I renewed it about a year before it ran out because as a student she was going on a year abroad, and it would have expired while she was out there (not a great idea 🤣).

It took just under 3 weeks to arrive.

I did my own a few weeks later and it took a fortnight.

@Topseyt123 fingers crossed it wont take too long to get sorted then! Thank you so much for your help😁
