USA East Coast/Martha's vineyard

Thinking of going to this area next year, just DH and I as a 25th anniversary trip.
We wondered whether to tour around a bit or just got to Martha's vineyard and stay there.
Any advice welcome.

We're planning something similar for 2024. For us there's enough to do around Cape Cod to stay there.

Flights into Boston, going to the JFK museum there. Driving onto Cape Cod where we'll base ourselves for boat trips over to Martha's Vineyard and maybe Nantucket. Whalewatching from Cape Cod and there's another JFK museum at Hyannis. Also the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute near Falmouth where they launched the boat/subs that located the wreck of he Titanic.

We want to go in the Fall 🍁

DH is hoping to see some birds that turn up in the UK as rare migrants from time to time.
I'd also like to visit Boston to see where my grandfather was born.
