Greek island and Athens

I'd like to visit a Greek island in April and would like to incorporate a day visit to Athens during the holiday. Thinking of around 5 days total.
Which is the best island to stay on in terms of:
Vicinity to Athens
Things to do, places to eat drink (not too quiet)
