Where to stay? Area and hotel! DP would like to be a walk from the beach. What to do? Where to eat? Anything! We like food, wine, art, architecture and music.

Hoping to keep to a fairly modest budget and going in a couple of weeks - fairly last minute!

TIA.

We like the area of El Born, which is about a 10-15 minute walk to both Las Ramblas and the beach. Last time we went, we stayed in Hotel Motel One which I’d definitely recommend. However it’s right on the upper edge of El Born so about 30 mins from the beach. The previous time we went we stayed at Hotel Ciutat which is in a better location for you, but it was fully booked for our second stay.

The main market is well worth a look. I'd avoid Raval after dark.
A stroll through Eixample is great for window shopping and people watching.
Park Guell for the Gaudi mosaics.

We stayed in the Well+Come hotel which was lovely. Tube stop right outside which can take you to the beach.

I've stayed in barceloneta and it's so lovely. Airbnb and they're right by the beach. Make sure you take a trip up tibidabo. It's amazing! Grin

I wouldn’t recommend air b n b. Locals are very pissed off with what it has done to their city. There are any number of hotels to choose from.

flflflf · 02/11/2022 13:53

watch out for pickpockets, it's notorious for these.

BarrelOfOtters · 02/11/2022 13:56

REally keep an eye out for pickpockets - don't keep anything in pockets or in rucksack on back. cross body bag. Don't leave a bag on the floor if you are in a cafe.

But fantastic city. Well worth visiting.

Carpediem15 · 02/11/2022 13:59

Yes please beware of pickpockets - these are how they try to scam you - suitelife.com/blog/moving-to-barcelona/barcelona-pickpockets-scams-and-street-scams
The Metro is quite notorious for it.
Don't be put off by them but just be aware, it is a fabulous City.

The coffee shops were really good.

Hotel looks lovely but think DP would like something nearer beach.

Other two hotels mentioned sadly sold out

Stayed here just before the 1st lockdown. Just over the road from the beach, short train ride or a scenic beach walk in to the busier parts. Close by strip with restaurants and bars.

Would second the recommendation for El Born area. We stayed here last time we went www.cataloniahotels.com/en/hotel/catalonia-born which was good, nice rooms and small rooftop pool area which was nice to have. Though may be a bit far from the beach for you. We much preferred it to staying closer to la rambla which we had done previously.

A few years ago we went to the Picasso museum which was very good. Also recommend the castle which overlooks the port for some good views, you can get a cable car to it. But mostly I just loved walking around the little streets finding little bars and coffee shops and stopping and watching the world go by.

Enjoy, it's a fantastic city!
