Sea swimming & hill/mountain combination

Hi all
Just got back from a trip to Croatia where we stayed near the sea on the edge of a national park. The latter was great for hiking and running, the former great for sea swimming - which makes for a perfect holiday for us.
Just wondering if anywhere else might fit a similar bill? Happy to be in the middle of nowhere - no need for nightlife etc!

The Cinque Terre in Italy. You can hike between the villages but they are all the coast. www.incinqueterre.com/en/

Picos de Europa in northern Spain?

BuzzyBusyBee · 01/11/2022 09:27

Corsica - a bit of a drive between the real high mountains and the coast but plenty of hilly coastal walking as well. Easily
possible to combine some proper mountain days and some beautiful beach days into a weeks holiday

@PosiePerkinPootleFlump , can I ask roughly where you stayed? Sounds like our perfect holiday too!

Srry I’m going to be the one to say it.our only national park by the coast… Pembrokeshire m. Best place on earth.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 01/11/2022 11:17

Ooh all of these look great and I've not been to any. Thank you all. We were supposed to do the Pembrokeshire coast path a couple of years ago but covid got in the way.

MsMartini we stayed at Starigrad Paklenica, near Zadar.

Lagos in Portugal.

Aran in Scotland surprisingly fab for this, though you might want some neoprene for the swimming bit! (Totally swimmable without but if you’re wanting to stay in I reckon it’s wetsuit temperature and I swim in Derbyshire winters)

Cyprus.
Fuertaventura.
Pembrokeshire.
Northumberland.

Thank you all. I am too much of a cold water wuss for some of these but maybe I can work on it. 23 degree air temp and sunshine and 21 degree water last week was perfect. I find Devon in summer challenging with no wetsuit unless it is exceptionally warm weather!

Fuerterentura if you don't mind your terrain mars like (red and rocky), if you stay down at the bottom the hotels literally are across the road from the hills, the hotel I stayed specialised in mountain biking excursions but we walked on the trails fine - sea is warm enough to swim in year round. Good food, lots of sports onsite (included) surfing not far too

MsMartini · 01/11/2022 19:53

Thank you @PosiePerkinPootleFlump .

And Pembrokeshire definitely the best place on earth. 😁

Sobra on Mljet (Croatia again!) is perfect & this year we stayed in a fab Airbnb on Hvar which was just two steps from the sea. Lots of running tracks through Pune forests too. We can’t find anywhere that beats Croatia but are trying!

Puffykins · 08/11/2022 07:15

Also Wales - and Snowdonia. And the Western Isles of Scotland, for example Skye.
