Self Catering Recommendations

MK1980 · 31/10/2022 15:21

I’m looking for recommendations for a European self catering holiday please.

I don’t like All Inclusive, I prefer self catering so I can go a walk at night and try different places for dinner. So looking for somewhere with nice apartments and a good central location for nice restaurants please.

"Europe" is a big place, so a bit more info needed!

Scenery and location - Mediterranean, seaside, big city, lakes and mountains etc?
Activities - shopping, people-watching, museums and art, concerts, hiking, white-water rafting and paragliding ..?
Any preferred countries - Scandinavia, France, Netherlands/Germany/Austria, Greece, Italy, Balkans etc...?
Time of year?

Type of transport - train, Eurostar, flights, self-drive?
Who's going - just you solo, with partner, with friend, with family/children?

Sorry, just realised it is pretty vague!

preferable beach resort Spain, Greece etc, however want to avoid the “lager lout” and English fry up brigade.

Was going to say port de pollensa. Make sure it's the port and not pollensa town
so you can walk in at night. Lots of restaurants and definitely not the English breakfast brigade.

Tigaki, Kos. Lovely T shaped resort with one Main Street and then the beach front. Loads of fantastic restaurants, many beachside with stunning views

We stayed here in Playa Blanca Lanzarote a few years ago.

Walking distance to marina, restaurants and beach. Large convenience store and bakery a couple of minutes walk away, fairly quiet and relaxed with easy access to rest of island for trips out (waterpark, volcano, markets, Cesar Manrique arty stuff, caves etc).

We always self cater.
Mojacar, in Almeria Spain. Low rise resort, loads of restaurants of every type.
Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, well I hope its still as nice as I remember it as off there next month.

We’ve just returned from Villajoyosa on the Costa Blanca and would highly recommend it. Its got a fabulous beach, loads of great restaurants to choose from and it is possible to travel up and down the coast on the tram.
There wasn’t a British menu or any of the people you want to avoid there at all to say it is only ten miles from Benidorm.
