I’m planning to book a solo holiday in the Maldives mid January for a week. Has anyone any suggestions, advice etc.
Thanks in advance.😁

Not been solo but you’ll have a great time. Have you decided on an island?

Depending on the island you’ll find outside of dinning, people will keep themselves to them selves, in their villas. It can be a very relaxing break, or more active depending on where you go.

I would say make sure you go snorkelling with a guide, at least to start with so someone knows where you are. Most islands run a variety of boat trips so there is something to do every day although most do cost extra. Most islands run yoga classes, tennis coaching, art classes etc. Picking the right island will be key. Don’t think you need to go 5 star. I actually think modern resorts miss the charm of the old, more traditional resorts.

South has a greater variety of sealife but equally, you’ll see a lot North too.

I honestly don’t know which island- hoping for a bit of input. I do want all inclusive though and I’d like decent food😁

Do you have a budget in mind?

You could try something like LUX in the South which is fantastic but it is ££££. If you’re happy with more rustic but more sea life, then Vilamendhoo or similar.

One island I would love to go to would be the CoCo resorts. I don’t know about price but it’s got a fantastic reef restoration project which guests are encouraged to take part in. Their AL is very comprehensive too.

It’s likely to attract older (30 + aged guests) unlike some of the bigger resorts which appeal more to younger people and families. You might enjoy some nightlife so it’s worth checking which feature entertainment as many won’t.

We are in Maldives at the moment, some resorts you arrive by seaplane some by boat if you have a preference ours was seaplane.

In the Maldives budget is king. So you need to state your budget. There is no point someone recommending a resort that will cost you seven grand foe the week when your budget is 4.

4k maximum, I was looking at the Rui Atoll - looks lovely with plenty of activities, coming in about 3.5. Anyone been there?

We are staying there now. We flew BA direct which was great then seaplane and speedboat there yesterday. All great. Went swimming in sea and pool and kayaking yesterday and swimming in sea and pool today. Beautiful beaches is quite resort based here there are a few excursions but not that many fine for a week or 10 days. Mini bar in room included. Food is variable some is excellent but have to pick and choose wisely. Fish is amazing and veg curries etc are amazing good salads. First room we had was a long walk from things all have beach next to them and sea but restaurants were 15 mins walk each way but asked to be moved and now 4 mins walk away which is much better. Over water ones look good and are close to things. Mainly couples. Lovely staff. Need a phone for things all via an app.
