Anybody been in the last year or two, in August? How was it, the area etc? Was it lively? Where did you stay?
Haven't been for several years, and have never been in August

Haven’t been for a long time but we did go in August and it was 40 degrees everyday.

Depends where you stay. Do you want to stay in actual Paphos town, or in the Paphos district, which is quite large? I live in the district, but down on the west coast, near Polis and Latchi. Latchi is a little harbour town, but it is always busy in August as that’s when the Cypriots have their holiday. It’s a bit cooler than Paphos town and not so humid. If you hire a car, there is lots to do in the area. You can drive to Trudos. Only takes an hour. Do the wineries. Loads of very pretty villages. You can take a boat tour, see the Akamas, a nature park, and swim in the sea in the lagoons. It has picked up in the last two years, but not quite to the levels it was pre-pandemic. It’s a great place, with great people. I wouldn’t want to stay in a big hotel in Paphos, but there are plenty of other options.

veil - we have been to your area a few times and love it. What is Paphos town like and Coral Bay? We quite fancy trying somewhere else for a change but have heard mixed reviews. Someone said Paphos is a bit dead due to all inclusive hotels and someone else described Coral bay as a bit like blackpool......but others have been more positive.

Coral Bay is quite tacky. Not a place I’d recommend. Paphos is busy in summer. I don’t think everyone goes all inclusive. Tend to stay away in summer due to the crowds. And it’s more humid.

Try Kathikas. Not too far from either. Lots of AirBnB’s there, and it’s a lovely village.

Coral bay is very 'Brits abroad' IMO, we were just there (only for a day trip from Paphos thankfully). Literally everyone was a Brit and the beach is covered in those nasty cheap blue metal sun loungers. It was packed in October, we struggled to find a lounger at all so I dread to think how rammed it would be peak season. It was 26 degrees when we were there. Also despite the buses being every 10 minutes they were rammed, in peak season I would not want to attempt it.

Paphos centre itself is fine I guess, there's are some nice looking restaurants. A big main road runs out of it lined with bars and restaurants (again a bit Brits abroad for my liking), King's mall etc no real beach. There's a fort but it's not worth paying to go up as there's nothing there and not a very good view from the top. There are the two UNESCO world heritage sites, the valley of the kings and the archeological site with the mosaics, which are really interesting if you like that sort of thing, they were by far the best bit for me. We stayed in an airbnb with a pool which was nice and the sunshine made it all worthwhile. I wouldn't go back apart from for the October sunshine though.

thanks so much for feedback on coral bay, doesnt sound our sort of place at all and you have saved me a disappointing holiday. i'll stick with polis/latchi area which we love.

We were there this August. We stayed at The Amavi hotel which is absolutely wonderful and is the only hotel we have ever returned too. Adults only - don't know if that is a plus or a minus for you. Paphos harbour - where the Amavi is - can be quite busy in the evenings and is a bit too touristy for us but MUCH nicer than Coral Bay. Paphos old town is lovely and a short cheap bus ride from the harbour. We hired a car and explored the area and up into the mountains which is beautiful and very very quiet. We also love visiting Northern Cyprus.
