Recommendations for 2 weeks in Oct - family hol

We never have good holidays as I’m too last minute so I’m trying to change that for 2023!

Please suggest a good 2 week holiday (2 week October half term) for me, DH and 10 and 13 year old.

We like good weather, adventure and animals (and self drive). Costa Rica looks great but understand it’s rainy season then, but other bits of S America could work or Africa? Somewhere in Asia?

I’m overwhelmed when I Google so would love some personal recommendations.

Fly to San Francisco where you can spend a few nights seeing the sights (and whale watching) before picking up a car and heading into Yosemite. October is one of the best times of year to be there. The roads will be clear of traffic and the weather is generally quite stable.

I am currently in Mexico in the Riviera Maya (Caribbean coast) we've had the most amazing 2 weeks here. It's the end of their rainy season but we've only had a fee showers that last about 10 minutes but it's still hot, it's been at least 30 degrees every day. I would highly recommend it.
