TUI FLORIDA WHATS GOING ON?

Moonshine86 · 22/10/2022 12:42

So I have been into the travel agents today to discuss my booking for next year! Due to go to Florida from Birmingham in May. The person assisting me said that all holidays to FLorida have been frozen! I was advised we would hear more in due course. Anybody know what’s happening?

I would imagine the hurricane that hit a month ago will be the reason.

Is Florida still under a state of emergency? Many hotels suffered major structural damage during the recent hurricane and will need to be demolished and rebuilt. Additionally others are putting up those who fled from the devastated, evacuated towns and islands. So I imagine the picture for next year is a bit uncertain.

The fall of the pound against the dollar also means Travel companies needing to look again at their prices. Withdrawing temporarily, then increasing the price at a later date.

Why didn't you ask the travel agent given that you are at the travel agents?

Moonshine86 · 22/10/2022 17:29

They didn’t know and were surprised to find a freeze on holidays

Whereabouts in Florida were you going.

the gulf coast has been hit very hard. We go to Sanibel island and the island is going to take a long time to rebuild and be able to accept tourists again. Some resorts have been completely destroyed. Similarly Naples and fort Myers beach have been very badly damaged. On the other hand I had colleagues who were at a conference near Miami just when the hurricane hit and they said you wouldn’t even have known there was anything wrong

We have a family holiday booked to Orlando Florida at the end of May. Thank you for all responses so far it does make sense.

I’m just home from Florida. Orlando to be precise and you wouldn’t know a hurricane had been. It’s totally normal there. We flew 2 days after the hurricane and home a few weeks later. Flights completely unaffected

Because the travel agent didn't know or is clueless? We booked with Tui this year and we found out our flight had been cancelled before they did. When we went in to the shop to tell them they told us we'd made a mistake. We hadn't. And after that their mantra was "we can't do anything here, the third party team are dealing with it". Followed by "no, we can't phone them from here." It's taught me that I will never book with Tui again.

I’ve heard that they are withdrawing long haul flights from a couple of airports, Bristol being one of them, so it could be that they are reshuffling their schedule at the moment.

Notnastypasty · 23/10/2022 01:38

Sorry should have said, Birmingham is not one of the affected airports from what I’ve heard/read!
