Hi
We're planning a trip to Jersey with getting the ferry over to France for 3-4 nights in the middle. We might hire a car and DH is keen to visit Mont St Michelle ( hopefully that's correct).

Was hoping for a bit of advice from those who have been please. Is St Malo a good place to stay or somewhere nearby. No
DCs as DS17 will be off to South Africa on school rugby trip lucky him.

Dinard is lovely and probably easier for parking. You can do a boat trip from there to St Malo. Mont St Michel gets rammed so go early. Or maybe look to stay there for a night so you can be there without the crowds.

Thanks @MissAmbrosia we did wonder about Dinard and also if we should stay at MSM so that's very helpful.

We stayed in Cancale which is famous for oysters and had lots of lovely restaurants along the promenade. 15 min drive to St Malo and easy to get to Mont St Michel. If you go to MSM go to the soufflé omelette restaurant!

Thanks @Twilightstarbright we're not huge oyster fans so I'm hoping they have other seafood as well Wink

I love St Malo. The fortifications along the beach are wonderful.

Dinan is also beautiful. Would very much recommend the Mercure there by the river and perhaps a trip down the river Ronce.

We are from Jersey and so quite familiar with Brittany.

MSM is lovely to stay on as it is empty at night

St Malo is lovely but I would prefer Dinan or Dinard to stay in. Or if you would like to be closer to Mont St Michel but still able to visit St Malo, maybe Dol de Bretagne?

Anywhere near st Malo is lovely! The beach at st lunaire is fab. Cancale is so beautiful. Pleurtuit is nice too. There are regular buses in the region and taxis aren't too bad.

Ah brilliant lovely to wake up to more recommendations. I didn't know about Dinan so I will check that out - particularly the Mercure suggestion.

@rookiemere they do! They also have a branch of the fancy crepe restaurant that is in the Marais district of Paris and the name has gone from my mind.

lots of restaurants did a set menu which was great value, and I remember a fish market once a week.

We had a fabulous time on that trip, lovely part of the world.

@Twilightstarbright Le Comptoir Breizh! There is one is St Malo as well in Cancale.

OP - If you aren't fussed about being super close to beaches, I'd stay in Dinan, it has a beautiful historic centre & very easy to drive to MSM, and is less chaotic in summer than the places near the coast.

rookiemere · 17/10/2022 10:17

I've looked at Dinan now and there appears to be some lovely accommodation- Mercure does look good - so I do think that's what we will go for.
