Advice for Turkey

We're planning a big post-exams trip with our teens next summer, interrailing around Europe. Our only requirements are that we visit both Germany and Turkey, and I'd like to fit in 5 days or so at the end to chill (total trip no more than 3 weeks). None of us have been to Turkey before, but one of the family would really like to see Istanbul (actually, DH has been to Istanbul, but nowhere else). I thought it might be sensible to end in Turkey by the sea, and I thought we could see Ephesus, which indicated Kusadasi might then be a good place to finish.

I'd like this part of the holiday to be totally chilled, but I've got no experience of Turkey at all, and have always been quite wary (probably very unjustly!). I don't like the idea of massive resorts and huge all inclusive hotels, is Kusadasi a bad idea?

Anyone with more experience of Turkey, should we just go from Istanbul to somewhere completely different (a remote Greek island or Croatia say?), or is there somewhere that perfectly fits the bill? If it's near some Roman artefacts, that would be ideal 😁.

kusadasi is very close to ephesus which is amazing but its where the cruise ships come in so its a huge resort Istanbul is an experience theres plenty to see the topkapi palace and the churches and the blue mosque but be prepared for the very obvious contrasts between people with money and people in absolute poverty and its very clear i had a shock when a bare foot kid in front of me picked up a half eaten apple core off the pavement and proceeded to eat it
