Omg I'm booked to fly with Ryanair , I'm not priority but have paid for 20kg luggage , I've been reading about what else I can take , I usually take a cabin suitcase for free on other air lines , Do Ryanair charge extra ?

From memory the only carry on you can take on Ryanair is handbag sized - everything else is chargeable

Also.. you may think you've got away with it by getting through check in but they also check at the gate (been stung here!)

You hand luggage needs to fit under the seat in front. You can't take a wheely suitcase but you can take a decent size rucksack or tote. I can't remember the exact dimensions but it's bigger than you think. I have managed a full weekend mini break on Ryanair hand luggage only on more than one occasion!

Is 20kg bag for just you or whole family?

I think Ryanair are absolutely fine as long as you know their rules. You can take a bag of up to 40cmx20cmx25cm for free to put under the seat in front of you.

Last time we flew with Ryanair, we had small carry on bags only and took a hold case each. The flight times were the most convenient and it was much much cheaper than the next available option (something like £260 vs £460 for two return flights with luggage to a European holiday island in the summer).

I know they're not perfect, but lack of free bags alone seems like a bit of an over-reaction to 'never fly with them again'.

If you book priority with them you get a 20kg hold case, a wheelie carryon and a small handbag

Ryanair also have free hand luggage. It just needs to go under your seat.

No, the 20kg hold bag costs extra. Priority only includes a 10kg carry on bag for the overhead locker and another bag that needs to be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you.

If you want to take a 10kg cabin case you do have to pay extra. Can't remember how much right now. You can also have a small bag that will fit under the seat. We did.

Yes, it's often worth checking all the options. Ryanair, and Easyjet too, have different options and 'packages' that often work out better value than just booking the bag by itself.

If you book priority, as well as getting on first, which may not actually be your ahem, priority, it buys extra cabin baggage, which in turn may pay for itself by reducing the amount of (paid) hold luggage that you need.

Last time we used Ryanair, I seem to remember that there was a package that included a seat of your choice as well as a hold case, because they will sit you separately in middle seats all over the aircraft if you don't pay, unlike other airlines where there's a good chance that you'll be seated together even if you don't pay.

I've just booked Ryan air flights there were 3 options, one with just the tiny under seat allowance, once with that plus 10kg overhead cabin baggage and reserved seats and one with both of those plus 20kg hold, reserved seats, priority boarding etc. We've booked one with tiny hand baggage and one the same but with 20kg hold, we don't need priority etc we're travelling without DS. If you're worried upgrade now. I do have a very small wheelie case that meets their under seat requirements but we will likely take a backpack each instead. How long are you going for?

EasyJet don’t give you ‘free cabin baggage’ anymore either. The most basic fare (which is always the one they’re advertising) allows you just a handbag basically. You pay extra for a cabin sized suitcase or a hold suitcase.

Just read your booking emails and check what you’ve got. And look on the Ryanair website. It shouldn’t be too complicated to work out?
