Bouillon Chartier. Just fab.

Inextremis · 10/10/2022 21:29

I was about to say Le Bouillon Chartier, but I see Gingernutmint has beaten me to it!

I see there are 3 of them - do you have a favourite?

It’s been a few years since I went, but the Auberge de la Reine Blanche was a lovely little place with excellent food

Le Train Bleu - fantastic

This is my favorite place in Paris: restaurantguru.com/Auberge-Pyrenees-Cevennes-Paris

The translation is horrible, but the point is that you MUST try the cassoulet. It is huge so maybe no appetizer. It is not fancy at all, it's a very familial kind of place. Definitely better for when the weather is colder.

We enjoyed Bistrot Victories although the service was rubbish, comically so - just as well we weren't in a hurry so it didn't really matter.

Bouillon Pigalle was the best and very good value but we got there early so queue wasn't too long.

We didn't have a good experience at Bouillon Chartier but I think that was because we had the steak which was very chewy - I think we should have picked something else from the menu.

Le Refuge des Fondus in Montmartre - really quirky little place that only serves meat or cheese fondue, and red or white wine, literally no other choices! Wine comes in baby bottles and you have to climb over other people to get to your seat on the long benches 😁

I love La Vaudeville at Bourse.

Thanks all - some great suggestions x

My recommendations are Le Sarassines on the Ile St Louis - a small place that has a bargainous €14.50 ‘menu di bonheur’ at lunchtime during the week (not been on a weekend so not sure about then). A steal for 3 courses in a pricy area of Paris.

If you’re heading up to Montmartre, then Chez Plumeau is reasonably priced for what is a very touristy area. It’s tucked behind the Place du Tertre and does an ok prix fixe lunch.

For something funkier, if slightly off the tourist trail, La Felicità and it’s food court is great fun, with a variety of food options to please everyone.
