Recs for going abroad with two 2-year-old boys!

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for taking 2 year olds abroad!

I have twin 2yos and one has recently just come off oxygen support (they were born extremely prematurely), in order to celebrate, we want to go abroad as we could not fly with the oxygen tank. For this reason, we specifically want to go abroad and aren’t interested in UK recommendations (even though I know there are fantastic options available here!).

I would like to go somewhere:

  • less than 3 hours flight
  • with a toddler pool
  • potentially near a beach
  • good food
  • with either adjoining rooms or an apartment style room/balcony so when the kids are asleep my husband and I can have a living room or somewhere to hang out
  • thinking Portugal or Croatia could be nice?

Does anyone have any resorts or areas they would recommend? I’d really appreciate the advice. I know a lot of people wouldn’t take their toddlers abroad and I totally respect that, but I really want to celebrate the freedom that not having an oxygen tank gives us, in this way.

Thanks so much!

Menorca is brilliant for toddlers.

We took our then 18 month old here
As it was a short flight and only 10 minutes from airport. Had a play splash area for little ones as well as a couple of pools and a baby pool. Has a main restaurant and two themed restaurants. Beach is opposite hotel. We loved it so much we will be returning next year with the newest addition to our family who will be 16 months when we go

Another vote for Menorca. We took our 2 yo & 10 month old DSs and all had a lovely holiday. 9 months later DS3 was born 😳

We stayed in Cala'n Bosch. I've just had a quick look & there are lots of hotels that meet your spec.

Moo2019 · 10/10/2022 21:16

@cheapskatemum haha I’m not sure if I should trust you, I don’t want a surprise baby #3!!!

I loved going to Greece when mine were 2-4 - the 2 hour time difference is perfect as you can keep the kids on UK time and they wake up later and stay up later so you can have a lie in and eat together in the evening.

cheapskatemum · 10/10/2022 21:28

@Moo2019 gosh yes, you would certainly have your hands full then!

Moo2019 · 10/10/2022 22:02

@Hellocatshome thanks! Do you recommend any hotels or resorts?

@Careylisa thanks so much - this looks great.

@twinteenwrangler always interested in the opinion of fellow twin mamas! Do you recommend any hotels specifically?

When did you want to go? If soon then only the canaries offer more guarantee of warm weather (not that even there it is really guaranteed), about 3.5-4 hours.

Would recommend Italy, Sicily is a long way south so warmer, but check likelihood of storms in autumn. I've not travelled with kids for so many years I can't recommend specifics

Hellocatshome · 10/10/2022 22:06

Menorca is only something like 30 miles across so really easy to visit lots of places. I would say just check the beach near the hotel isn't only accessible by steep steps because some of them are which would be a pain with two 2 year olds.

Moo2019 · 10/10/2022 22:10

@gogohmm thinking maybe spring next year, if there is any availability

Algarve was perfect for us..short 2 1/2 hour flight.

Moo2019 · 10/10/2022 22:19

@IWasFunBeforeMum yeah I think Algarve would be lovely, where about did you stay?

@Moo2019 I loved Neilson holidays - but you are not necessarily using all the features with toddlers so they may not suit.

Moo2019 · 11/10/2022 09:49

@twinteenwrangler oh thanks. I’ll check that out.
