Honeymoon in NYC

Hello. I'm hoping to get some accommodation recommendations for our honeymoon week in NYC next June.

We"re in our 50s and have both lived in the US so its not a first visit. The last time I was in NYC was a good 15 years ago though. My DP hasn't been for thirty!

We're hoping to find somewhere in an interesting location or a bit quirky or both. We're old enough to appreciate creature comforts however!

Any thoughts very welcome!

Giving this a tiny travel bump by adding I'm not a huge fan of either big hotels or the try-hard-to-be-trendy variety (looking at you, The Standard) 😆

Ha ha. I came on here to say The Standard High Line, then saw your last post!

Ha ha ha @genuinelyaskingforafriend - thank you! I'm sure its lovely but I have some irrational bad associated memories of the LA one amd so I'm now biased!

We stayed at the Ameritania on our honeymoon , nice hotel just off the theatre district and handy for underground etc

What's your budget?

Thank you for asking. We're thinking around £350 a night.

We loved the Library hotel.
Not cheap but worth it...they do cheese and wine every evening 5-7pm.

Have a look at Refinery near Bryant Park. It's a lovely hotel with a great rooftop bar. It smells amazing when you walk in. I could quite happily just sit in the lobby with a cocktail and a book. Quite possibly over budget though given the current FX rate but worth checking:

That must've been a great spot to stay! Thanks for suggesting. I think because we've both been to NYC many times (albeit last time a long time ago) we're thinking about getting to know other neighbourhoods. We both like to dander. Maybe the Village (because I've never stayed there) or meatpacking district. A good friend used to live on the Upper East so I have fond memories of it but times change and I'm interested to know what's what as I havent a scooby. :)

Oh, I remember reading about that place! Thanks for reminding me. Must look it up!

Also: if anyone has recommendations on alternatives to the big hotels, I'm keen to know more.

The Marlton Hotel? Good location near Washington SQ but rooms are small and still ££.

I would also look at Brooklyn!

RaininginDarling · 08/10/2022 16:17

Thanks @Myleakycauldron that's a good thought re: Brooklyn.
