Viila in Spain

I am going around in circles trying to find a villa in Spain which fits the holy grail criteria of being walkable to restaurants and bars.

We will be driving down, but our adult children will fly out to stay with us for a week at Easter.

We want a small, old-town, vibe with a 4-bed villa with a pool 5/10 mins walk.

Anywhere from Javea down to the Portuguese border.

So many of the search engines don't have a filter for distance from town, we would ideally like a beach close by too, but that is less important.

Help!! Please.

Try Mallorca.

Try Mallorca.

We are driving because we are staying with friends who live out there for a week beforehand.

We stayed in Begur a few years ago and the house was a very easy walk into the beautiful town. There's also a local bus which takes you down to the sea .
We are the same I hate driving or searching for taxis .
If I can find the house details I'll put them on here

GiantKitten · 10/10/2022 17:24

Airbnb doesn’t have a filter for distance from town, but once the map shows you can tell (also from some reviews)

We used Solmar Villas this year for a villa in mainland Spain. Very happy with it.

Roselilly36 · 10/10/2022 17:29

Do your friends know of any local estate agents, that know of villa rentals? I would give that a try.

weekendninja · 10/10/2022 20:00

@bigbushes I've just googled Begur and it looks completely beautiful.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Watching with interest as we're looking for similar ... with the added Pain in The Arse Factor of wanting to be an affordable half hour taxi fare from an airport.

I started some casual googling on Jet2 last week looking for a 2 bedroom one, private pool, modest kitchen facilities and outdoor eating. For 10 days mid holiday.

I kid yee not they were in the region of £13k!!!! That's before cabs/food and drink.

Confused
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/10/2022 21:12

Oh and that was for x 2 adults and a young teen

Chewbecca · 10/10/2022 21:13

We found villas in Nerja and Mijas (pueblo) meeting this criteria.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/10/2022 21:13

With no other bells and whistles required.

I immediately stopped looking and felt very defeated. After 5 minutes Grin

shinynewapple22 · 10/10/2022 21:20

Is Nerja too big for you? Just done a quick search on VRBO for 4 bed villas with private pool and there are a few should be within walking distance of restaurants etc . There won't be as much garden/ grounds/space as those further out.

If you pick any town/resort you think you might like and put a similar search in and then click on the map you can see where all the properties lie in relation to beaches, town etc

Obviously add your required date in.

shinynewapple22 · 10/10/2022 21:21

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz sounds like you would be better booking the air fares and accommodation separately .

I'm thinking this too although I've only ever done packages and now with more travel uncertainty I'm more worried about doing differently as I'm thinking we need the protection a package gives.

I'm wondering whether my Confused at prices is because we haven't been abroad since before lockdown or if they've just give up at normal rates but as we've not looked we've not noticed.

CraigDavid · 10/10/2022 22:13

Look at Gaucin. It's a white town half an hour from the coast set up in the hills and is beautiful. Lots of big villas with pools in the area.

shinynewapple22 · 11/10/2022 16:23

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz
We always use VRBO for accommodation - there is an option to filter on cancellation dates so you can choose free cancellation up to two weeks before. I admit I don't know what happens if you need to cancel closer to the time or cancel flights but we do always have travel insurance . We've cancelled flights due to Covid restrictions with no problem but don't know how it would work now.

None of our holidays are during school holiday weeks but we haven't paid anything anywhere near the price you quote .

Thanks I'd not heard of this provider ... is it like Air BNB?

shinynewapple22 · 11/10/2022 20:42

Yes. It was previously something like HomeAway which I think took over Owners Direct. Sometimes you find the same properties as AirBnB but also smaller agencies advertise through there .

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/10/2022 21:11

Thank you I'll look

CheltenhamLady · 17/10/2022 15:03

Thank you all. I looked at all the ideas and we searched the locations and for us, Nerja fitted the bill. I have booked a great villa reasonably close to both the town and the beach.

Begur, Mijas Pueblo and Javea also had some nice villas that fitted most of our criteria, but Nerja is only 50km from Malaga airport and that has tons of lights to choose from so that swung the decision.

bigbushes · 17/10/2022 15:05

fabulous choice it's lovely there !!

GiantKitten · 17/10/2022 15:25

Nerja is lovely! We’ve never stayed there, but always went for day trips when staying further afield.
Try to see a Semana Santa parade on Easter Sunday - they are amazing. The cities have huge ones, but the smaller towns are still impressive and more accessible; we once stayed at Alhaurín de la Torre, quite near Malaga, and theirs was good. Malaga has a much bigger one, public transport recommended though.

We have been to Nerja several times - I hope that you enjoy it . Yes GiantKitten - the Easter parades are amazing. There is one in Nerja - from memory it goes around the streets and finishes up in the square of Balcon Europa by the Church.
