Pig island on a budget

We are visiting Bahamas next month and it has always been in my bucket list to visit the swimming pigs.

Prices seem extortionate- $500 per person for a day trip.

Is there anyway to do this on a lower budget/less fancy?

Has anyone been? Was it worth it?

Are you staying in Nassau? If so, then the proper Pig island is a flight away on Exuma. Or a long boat ride just for a day trip, Youll generally need to fly. Lots of people do the day trip though, so the organised boat trips will tie in with flights.
You can’t get to the island on your own unless you charter your own boat. It’s tiny, and you’re only there for half an hour. The organised day trips go to several of the cays, there’s one for iguanas as well, turtles, Thunderball grotto etc. Lots of fun.
id recommend staying on Exuma if you can, for a few days, it’s a fabulous island, very laid back, hardly any tourists, no sun lounges on the beaches here, just endless sand with turquoise waters, friendly turtles and locals.
There are knock-off non -original other Pig Islands though, if all you want to see are a few pigs on the beach.

Yes staying at The Atlantis on Nassau.

I see the sped boats are about £199 but 3 hours on a speed boat sounds horrendous and not suitable for a 4 year old and 5 year old.

Flight over sounds much better and faster, but £599 per person is steep for a day trip. (Maybe I’ll just go on my own and leave the kids behind)

I agree Bahamas and budget do not go hand in hand 😂
