Need a holiday this week - Where?

An unexpected opportunity has suddenly popped up for me, DH & 16 month to have a 10 day break, starting Thursday. I don’t know if it’s our chronic sleep deprived brains unable to function anymore, but we don’t know where to start booking a holiday. We’re thinking Southern Europe, hopefully still some sun, maybe warm enough for swimming (in a resort pool if not the sea), preferably with a restaurant onsite, that is within an hour of an airport. Has anyone had an amazing experience this summer they’d recommend? This will be our first ever family holiday after a fairly rough start to parenting, so we’re happy to splash out. TIA

Cyprus has good weather in October

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 03/10/2022 14:00

I would say cyprus too.

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:01

Any tips for where to stay? The choice is overwhelming (first world problem I know)

Any of the Canary Islands. Jet2 are the best for a package holiday.

QforCucumber · 03/10/2022 14:05

For a lazy but child friends one the Bahia Fantasia in Tenerife is fab and only a 15/20 min transfer form the airport.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/10/2022 14:05

Friend of mine is having a lovely time in Sardinia as we speak.

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:05

Hmm DH has just ruled this out. Says destination must be under 3 hour flight away 😵‍💫

OP posts:
QforCucumber · 03/10/2022 14:07

Tell him to find the holiday!
Anything <3 hours isnt going to be as warm as the likes of Greece/Cyprus/Cananies which are all 4 hours.

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:07

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads any tips where in Sardinia?

first choice holiday village in paphos

cooolio · 03/10/2022 14:08

Why under 3 hours? He'll have to find it then won't he!

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:10

@QforCucumber ha it’s tempting to tell him to do it himself! I think he has PTSD from 16 months of very bad sleep and doesn’t really believe that going anywhere with our baby will be relaxing. But I’m determined to make the most of this.

OP posts:
cooolio · 03/10/2022 14:11

Of course it will be relaxing. However, the rainy forecast in Alicante vs the glorious one in Cyprus or the canaries will make all the difference.

QforCucumber · 03/10/2022 14:14

Hah tbf @Calmondeck we have a 6 year old and a 2 year old, and after numerous ‘fun’ holiday with the now 6 years old between 18 months and 3.5 we are refusing to go away with them both until little is almost 5 😂

The Bahia was fab though, for us and ds when he was 3, we fully intend to go back

also, they’re good on the plane we found, it’s when you have to take them out of the pool that all hell breaks loose 😂

Dollydea · 03/10/2022 14:20

We're in Cyprus atm the weather is amazing, hardly seen a single cloud for the past 3 weeks.
I did read that it's supposed to gradually begin to cool this week but that's not a bad thing considering it was 40+ all weekend.
The seas the perfect temperature for swimming too.

When we went to Spain in October a few years ago the weather was awful.

earsup · 03/10/2022 14:28

longer flight but we go to turkey in oct...dodge the half term prices....get luxury for 400 quid a week....!! and its hot....

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:31

@earsup any specific place you recommend?

Just back from Turkey which was lovely and warm. We've been several times but this was our first time away with our toddler. I find Turkey to be great value for money in terms of accommodation and service compared to other places.

Having said that, if money isn't an issue, I've previously been to Tenerife at this time of year and it was also amazing.

Calmondeck · 03/10/2022 14:43

@reallyjustwantgin I’m open to Turkey! Where is good to stay? I’m hoping to lock something in today before DH can change his mind

I would go on the jet2 website. Put in your local airport and tick all the destinations you are happy with and that are hot, select Thursday to leave and then click splash park under requirements. See what comes up!

QforCucumber · 03/10/2022 14:51

We've also done Turkey, Favourite is the Adalya Elite or Baia Lara - again both 15 mins from Antalya airport :)

have a look at Jet2....we have been to marmaris but this time going to Side...we dont do all inc as resorts a bit remote....we always do 4* self catering...i just book the place that is close to town and sights and the size of the pool as not a beach person....plus excellent exchange rate...huge inflation...take euros for the shopping which is also fab....not the fake stuff but lots of good quality turkish brands....the scandinavians go to buy clothes,,,bedding curtains etc...olu deniz and fethiye are maybe the posher resorts.....

NatMoz · 03/10/2022 14:55

I'm going to Greece in a week, Kos where it'll be around 25 degrees with my almost 10 month old. Staying at IKOS resorts

Thefailinghousewife · 03/10/2022 14:58

Ooh yes @NatMoz - If you can afford Ikos, they are incredible. We did Dassia at Easter and it was wonderful.

We have been to Marmaris and Side.
We stayed in a lovely resort in Side but where we were, there wasn't a promenade for a nice walk and the sea had a really strong tide so wasn't suitable for our toddler (too dangerous to play in the damp sand and it was otherwise roasting). Thankfully he loved the pool and our hotel had everything we needed so it was great.

In marmaris there's an amazing promenade right along the front and loads of hotels that go straight on to it. So, lovely for an evening stroll and access to restaurants etc....

I know folk who have loved Lara Beach, Icmeler and Olu Deniz. At 16 months your wee one won't need more than a swimming pool so hopefully you'll have plenty options.

It's so lovely to get a break away so good luck finding something!
