Long weekends abroad

I've always thought that long weekends abroad, ie three nights is a waste once you've got there, but I am seriously considering it for my next break!

It would be great to know where you went for your short break away, for how many nights and did you feel it was worth it for the time spent in the airport and flying to your destination for just a few nights.

Thank you all for your replies. So much food for thought there! I'm edging towards Malaga. For those who have been, would it come recommended for the beaches and general city vibe? Google maps makes it look lovely! It'd be a good base to go further down the coast to Benalmadena too.

@FattyAirways Great choice! Malaga is fab. It’s got everything, beach food museums and shopping.

I love long weekend breaks.

This year Luxembourg, Porto, Paris, Berlin, Dubrovnik and Tallin.
Previously Dublin, Cork, Valencia, Barcelona, Biarritz, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Munich, Salzburg. Others too. Budapest and Bucharest were both good.

Most of Europe is so accessible and if you’re going with friends a long weekend is perfect length of time. No time to get irritated with each other, as it’s shorter than a week, it feels reasonable to splash out on hotel and meals.

Malaga is fab! Also Barcelona, Seville, Lisbon. I've just come back this morning from a couple of nights in Nice, somewhere I haven't been for years, and want to go back already. It was tagged on to a week in Italy but I really enjoyed it.

Three night breaks are great! This year I've been to Lake Garda, Milan and Menorca.

The TUI app is really good for searching for holidays for 'a few days' with flexibility around dates so if you're able to go last minute, you can find amazing bargains with luggage, transfers etc. Lake Garda in May for us was flights, hold luggage, transfer, 4 star hotel with jacuzzi bath, slippers and dressing gowns, dinner, bed and breakfast for three nights for £330 each!

Malaga is a great choice op for a weekend break. Take hand luggage only to reduce time waiting around in the airport. At Malaga airport the train station is within the grounds and very easy to use. Ticket machines are in English, trains run every 20 minutes. One direction they go to Malaga, a short journey, the other direction takes you to benalmadena (you mentioned that would be of interest in your last post) I've got the train from the airport to benalmadena a few times, it's 6 stops, about 15 minutes and costs about 2 euro. The trains are clean and reliable.
Malaga is a fab city too.
Enjoy!

@BIWI
At Heathrow with business seats, BA, we didn’t drop bags as we took cabin bags and of course had checked in. They checked our documents. Maybe because it was long hail to USA? No queue at all though. Yes, you do put liquids in a bag still there. Fast track was security was quite quick. So many people are unprepared for security though. We always go through the check in desk even if we have checked in. This was our first long haul with cabin bags though.

Bruges x 3 nights and go by Eurostar. Make sure you get the tickets that take you on to Bruges and other destinations.

I went to Venice for a weekend for a special birthday and it was lovely. I live close to an airport and am a teacher so could knly go Saturday/Sunday. We actually caught an early morning flight on the Saturday, was sipping coffee in Venice by 10am and caught a flight back 7pm Sunday night. It was lovely and Venkce is a good, walkable size. By only staying one night, we could afford to pay for very central accommodation.

We’re in Malaga currently but we’ve gone about an hour north into the mountains near Ronda love it.

flights £55 each rerun - no seats or priority. Hotel £200 for 3. Nights we have one night at the airport on Thursday as was £25 to fly in the morning at 6 am rather than £150 each on Thursday or Friday night. That hotel cost us €55 but as it’s saving us £200.

flew from Manchester paid £25 each to use the lounge before flight so worth it.

Waste once you get there? I don't understand. Why would you think that?

We always go for a long weekend, when I go with the girls. Been to 8 European cities. Fabulous.
