Short Break/Hol with Children for 40th birthday - Egypt/New York/Dubai - any other ideas?

It is my 40th birthday in March and we are thinking of going for a short break somewhere, but it would be with our DS's aged 4 and 9. Have thought about Dubai and Egypt but am a bit put off re innoculations for Egypt because of the children etc. DH is quite keen on a long weekend in New York but do not really know if this would be very family friendly as sight-seeing just isn't fun according to my children! Have done Med hotels many times, so am looking at something a bit different, but not too long haul because of the kids! Can anyone recommend anywhere or give me some more ideas?

ny would be fine if you go to the parks and museums - they are fantastic and your age kids would love them - also ferry trips - so sightseeing and kid friendly - restaurants are great too - you could spend a day in central park

however, you will need to factor in jet lag

also, budget for lots of cabs else you will get very tired as there is a lot of distance between key places

barcelona? nearer - smaller - lots to see - parks/galleries/ etc that might appeal to you all

For a family trip I wouldn't go on a long haul weekend away. It's very much a personal thing but Europe is lovely in the Spring, short flights, no jet lag, no jabs. Less time in the air, more time to explore your destination.

Long haul flights are more expensive so why not go short haul and use the extra to go market on your accommodation.

Fly to Nice, visit Monaco, Eze, Cannes, the French Riviera, lovely.
