Which Britax car seat will fit on plane?

Hi,

I'm having a lot of problems confirming dimensions of my car seat with Britax, that will fit on Singapore Airlines.

I have a First Class Si: it needs a lap & diagonal belt to install and width is 17.7inch which is larger than Singapore Airline's approved 17inch for car seats.

I have decided to buy another Britax and would like some advice on which model to get and its dimension.

Would really appreciate any help. We're travelling on 23rd so its getting close.

Thanks,

Catharine

Hi Urm I have a standard forward facing Britax car seat 0-4 or so years, which is about 60quid or so (depends where you buy it from) it fits economy airline seats on BA and Virgin, so should be ok? not sure or model....but it is the cheapest Britax do! (ahem we're skint...)

I think the Marathon fits but doublecheck this before you buy. I know the Husky does not. I looked on the site and it says it should say somewhere on the label if it is approved for airlines.

Definitely get one with a label on it saying it is approved for airline use and don't remove the label! Singapore airlines have asked us in the past to see it. Our seat is a Britax one but it is US version about 3 years old and I know the names are different. From memory, it's called something like Explorer or Freeway or somthing like that. I'd say that if you get any Britax that secures with a lap belt and is less than 17 in with the label on it, you will be fine. (Sounds like you will have to take a tape measure with you to the shop.) Enjoy the trip!

cant you borrow one out there>

Thanks for the advise.

Singapore Airlines accepts Britax as they are ECE approved, but do I measure the car seat at the base, or widest point?

We're thinking about the Eclipse, but will have to measure it first.

Both Singapore Airlines and Britax won't able to give me a clear answer.

Hi Catherine, Trailfinders travel agents (London and Manchester and other offices) might be able to help you, they have close ties with Singapore Airlines. I flew Manchester-Singapore-Sydney with them when DS was 10m and found the cot they provide quite useful. He wouldn't sleep but was happy sitting in there hurling toys at my head! Just thought I'd mention this as an alternative if your child gets fed up in the carseat.

Unfortunately I don't live in the UK but in Dubai, and customer service people in the Middle East are not very detailed in their answers.

Has anyone used an Eclispe on a Singapore Airline flight?

Hi - So sorry I don't have Eclipse. I totally sympathise with your stress. If you check it out and it's "airline" approved, then my guess is you are going to be OK with it. You'd be safest to measure at the widest point, not just the base. (Just thinking that because the base may fit but the chairs come out a bit I think.) Good luck!

We do have an Eclispe, but weve never flown with it. You can use just a lap belt though.

Hi Catharine, I found a website for Britax at www.britax.com and there is a 'contact us' link in the top LH corner. Might be worth a try?

Catharine · 01/12/2004 05:29

Thanks,

I did call & email Britax and all they told me was that the seat was 17.7inch.

I measured the Eclipse at different areas and it was at 17inch.

However we have enough frequent flyer points for the 2 of us to get upgraded to business class, and they've blocked off the middle seat as well.

We'll still take our original First Class Si car seat with us but will put it in as luggage.

At least now we don't have to spend extra on a new car seat.

Thanks everyone! :-)
