I’m toying with the idea. Anyone been and care to comment on what was good, great or otherwise. DC will be 13 & 15

Hi! I went to Rio de Janeiro in December 2021 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I stayed in Fairmont Copacabana Beach, so central to everything and could walk to everything. We also stayed in an area called Barra da Tijuca which is just a posh bit of Greater Rio de Janeiro but very nice.

What interests do you have? We went to Santa Teresa, Christ Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain, went to the city centre, went to Saúde (birthplace of Samba) and just stumbling across the beauties of Rio!

I've been a few times with work to Rio, Recife and Sao Paulo. All were very good. Sao Paulo not so touristy, but still very vibrant.

Rio and Recife are very nice and wellworth visitingif youve never been, both have great beaches and vibrant nightlife and plenty to do.

@Kualma we like 'doing' rather than 'being' so walking, visiting, activities etc. I think the kids would like to do some dance connected things. I'd like to see the big hitters, but I can't say I'd want to go all that way for beaches (I don't sunbathe) as it feels like I could do that in France. Clearly Rio is a beach city and that adds a dimension, but beach 'life' would wear thin for me.

The falls look great and the pantanal area. Did you go there?

Thanks

I went when my DC were 12 and 11, we stayed in Leblon in Rio and enjoyed eating out somewhere different each evening. We didn’t have a car and got taxis each day and visited Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Botanical Gardens and Copacabana Fort. We took a jeep trip into the rainforest which was booked through Viator and really good. We had a few lovely couple of hours sessions on the amazing beaches which was most welcome after a lot of sightseeing. My DC played football with the local DC and I loved looking at the mountains from the beach. We were there over Easter and it was fun watching all the locals take their big picnics to the beach.
I recommend looking at Viator and either booking or replicating some of their excursions.
After this we flew to Iguassa and had 5 nights at a place called La Cantera Lodge de Selva in Argentina which was really good. We visited both sides of the falls, went to Paraguay for half a day and also some mines. We had a driver take us to all these places.
