Hello all. First ever thread on MN & looking to tap into your collective wisdom! We’re looking to book a week to Turkey, the first week in October. Only been once & it was 20 years ago so looking for advice/recommendations on area or even hotels please. Just myself & DP & he’s the type that likes the sun/heat so seems south Turkey best for that time of year? No major requirements, just an easy & relaxing week away so probably just hotel based and happy to do AI as seems to be the norm from my search so far. Would prefer 4/5 star.

Thanks in advance.

I've just
Come back from Kas. It was beautiful and not particularly touristy. Highly recommended

AsACloud · 11/09/2022 12:39

Thanks. I’ll have a look there. A friend, who goes to Turkey regularly, just told me that a lot of places start to wind down in September so to be careful where I booked for first week October. Don’t mind it being quiet but don’t want to be in a hotel where some things are closed down.

I was looking at Turkey for October too but there's lots of people on here saying they really didn't like it at all, hotels too big and busy etc and can't get a sunbed.

If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them too please.

AsACloud · 12/09/2022 10:53

A friend of mine was in Antalya in July & said the hotel was very busy but I expected that by October, it would be less so. The hotels do look huge though.

Have a look at Liberty Fabay in Fethiye
Lovely hotel

HandbagsnGladrags · 12/09/2022 11:04

I'd recommend the Barut chain of hotels if you're looking for a luxury all inclusive.

QforCucumber · 12/09/2022 11:04

Lara beach is brilliant but yes some of the hotels do close off some areas in October, Tenerife is another option, as the seasons there seem to run later into the year

LeviOsaNotLeviosAR · 12/09/2022 12:03

A previous poster mentioned Fethiye - I agree with there. It's a working town filled with locals and ex pats so is open year round. Has a lovely marina too.

Neighbouring towns of calis and hisaronu (my favourite) for busier nightlife. That time of year things will be winding down but generally still plenty of options.

Beach is at olu deniz and is stunning. You can sit and watch paragliders jump off of babadag mountain and land literally feet away from you. (You can also get a cable car up to the top of babadag where there is a resturant).

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the info and will look into it now. Has anyone been to these places at the start of October? Thanks to a PP for mentioning Tenerife. Reason I’ve not looked at the Canaries is DP had two holidays there with poor weather so won’t go now! I was hoping south Turkey would still be warm & sunny. Forecast for next few weeks looks great.

Liberty fabay, Hilton dalaman or voyage belek.

OwBist · 12/09/2022 12:38

Yacht Classic in Fethiye is lovely. Not AI, but within walking distance of the town and a short taxi to Olu Deniz.

Am going first week of October this year. Haven't been at this time before but weather forecast looks good and everything still open at the hotel I'm staying in.

Have you considered North Cyprus? We’ve stayed in the Salamis Bay Conti a few times now and always enjoy it. Never issues with sun beds etc even in peak times. Has several pools and it’s own beach. Some nice trips you can do - we did one to Famagusta walled city and Salamis Ancient city. You don’t get hassled in North Cyprus like you do in Turkey. Great food and drink ok the hotel - has a separate Chinese restaurant too. The only downside is you either have to fly to the Greek side and get across the border, or fly to Istanbul and get a connecting flight to Ercan on the north side.

Blabla81 · 12/09/2022 12:48

in not ok

Blabla81 · 12/09/2022 12:50

Spent many mornings collecting sea glass on the hotel beach too - was lovely.

AsACloud · 12/09/2022 12:53

Never been to Cyprus actually & was wondering yesterday if it was an option. I’ll look now. Thanks for that.

@Blabla81 have never really been hassled in Turkey, think it depends where you stay. Antalya area - have never had any hassle.

No problem. We’ve always booked through “Cyprus Paradise” if that’s any help.

Yes you’re right - it does depend on where you stay. Some of the main resorts are bad for it - luckily being half Turkish Cypriot myself I’ve never been hassled personally but it was awful watching other people get pounced on (not literally 😊).

HandbagsnGladrags · 12/09/2022 13:00

Southern Cyprus is lovely too OP - particularly Paphos. Have been in October a few times and the weather was perfect. Mid 20's, lots of sun.

I have stayed in hisaronu (next to fethiye) at the end of October. Definitely cooler and weather can be hit and miss. We had a few days where we could lay out in the sun and a few with rain. Evenings are colder - you need a jumper/zipper. Most bars have fire pits to help take the chill off you and hand out blankets so it's not as cold.

Normalmumandwife · 21/05/2023 17:24

I would second Kas

GozerTheGozerian · 21/05/2023 17:25

Kalkan is beautiful. Also recommend Hilton at Dalaman. We’ve been end of October and it was quiet but weather fantastic.

ashamed1235 · 21/05/2023 17:34

Second Kalkan, particularly without kids! We like the Fethiye area too.

Never been hassled or felt uncomfortable and we are a same sex female couple with children. No problems at all.

professionalnomad · 25/05/2023 21:52

Kas, Kalkan and Gocek are my favourite places to stay
