Belgium: G(h)ent or Antwerp- where would you stay for an overnighter?

We're driving from Dunkirk to a Dutch Center Parc at Whitsun and will overnight in Europe enroute so as to maximize our CP time. Where would you stay out of the above? We'd get there about 5pm, and need a family room. I'd hope to be able to walk into the town for a meal perhaps but I don't know much about either place. Thanks

We have been to several of the Dutch Centerparcs and the kids love it.
Sorry haven't been to Ghent and went to Antwerp many years ago, so couldn't tell you the best place to stay.

However,we stopped off in Brugge overnight when we came back once and it was lovely old town. Although the Hotel was only surposed to be 20 minutes walk away and turned out to be nearer 40!

The only problem would be you would have a longer journey in the morning.

Ghent is beautiful. It's like Bruges but with less tourists - canals and dutch gables everywhere. And it's a much smaller town than Antwerp so if you were going to stay in eg an Ibis, I'd think you'd get one in the centre of town more cheaply.
