Somehwere nice to stay in France in June, next to beach not a big place..?

Looking at going to France for a holiday (can't afford abroad) never been & have no idea which part to go to.

We want to go in June, would like hot weather is south france fo this?

Right on beach would be good, no big place like butlins & the likes, just nice family place with a shop etc.

The holiday places in France aren't really like the hotels and holiday places you tend get in Spain, Portugal, Greece, etc. Instead, you tend to get:

• posh, expensive hotels
• holiday parks where you camp in tents or fixed caravans
• gites - self-catering properties that are often converted barns and so on

In the north west of France (Brittany, Normandy) you quite often get the holiday parks on or very close to beaches. But it's not as hot here as it is elsewhere in France. It can be a gamble, but I would guess that June would at least be warmer than the UK.

The South of France is hideously expensive (but gorgeous) and is very hot in summer. It's expensive to stay, but even more expensive to eat, drink and so on.

The next best weather after the South is the western coast - Vendee, Charente-Maritime areas etc. It is lovely and sunny and hot in summer - very much like the South of France.

My recommendation would be a gite, and in the western coast. There's a great choice at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk and www.frenchconnections.co.uk You may not get one right near a beach, so would need to drive, but there are some fab beaches along this stretch of coast and the roads aren't very busy at all in June.
