Solo female - somewhere hot for Christmas?

SwissRole123 · 29/08/2022 11:54

Fucking off out of it this year. I want to go somewhere hot where I can sunbathe etc. But I want to feel safe! Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica are all too risky apparently... presumably I'll need to be outside of Europe. Any ideas?

Jamaica is safe if you stay in the hotel grounds I think. Ours had security on the beach.
What about Cape Verde, Bahamas or Florida ?

ClaryFairchild · 29/08/2022 11:56

Australia? Or is that too far?

SwissRole123 · 29/08/2022 11:58

Budget is around £2k and it'll only be for a week. Yes Australia is way too far

Barbados, ‘the body holiday’ in St Lucia, Thailand.

willowtree66 · 29/08/2022 12:01

I second Barbados.

workingmumuk · 29/08/2022 12:13

Canary Islands are apparently quite safe, and warm around Christmas.

Jamaica is completely safe if you are in Negril, Port Antonio or Treasure Beach.
How much do you have to spend?
I'd suggest:
www.rockhouse.com/ in Negril
jakeshotel.com/oceanfront-bungalows in TB
or www.geejamhotel.com/ in Port Antonio
I have stayed at all as a female solo traveller and had a truly amazing time, I mean it is so relaxing and the beaches, LOOK AT THIS: frenchmanscove.com/world-famous-beach/

These resorts are safe and well set up for solo female travellers, respectful of privacy but also there for company when you want. The food at all of them is AMAZING.

If I was a millionaire I would stay here: www.goldeneye.com/

There are so many amazing things about Jamaica - the people, food, music, culture, beaches etc. Montego Bay and Kingston are dangerous but there are also very dangerous places in the USA and Uk and we do not write off the whole country! Email the resorts and have a chat - they will reassure you and you will be very well looked after.

PM me if you have any questions. I go all the time and know a very kind, safe driver if you would like his number. When I have wanted to go to Kingston to see Bob Marley house etc and get cash out in Mo Bay etc he accompanies me and takes care of me. He is a lovely kind respectful family man.

:)

Barbados is where I'd go

Security on the beach to stop Jamaicans using their own countries beaches. It is illegal and a disgrace, utterly appalling. The police are cracking down now and stopping the foreign owned companies from preventing Jamaicans from accessing their own natural resources.

Imagine the outrage if, let's say, a Saudi Arabian company opened a resort on Brighton Beach and had security preventing locals from going on the beach?

Dubai.

I’ve never felt so safe anywhere whilst travelling alone.

Gran Canaria, the warmest, least windy of the Canary Islands. Some great hotels by the sea. Puerto Rico (in Gran Can) is a good spot, but if you have any mobility issues, make sure your accommodation is at the bottom of the hill!

Our daughter in her mid 30s likes to be away at Christmas. The last 2 were Costa Rica, which she enjoyed but the first week was marred by rain. She was in the rain forest. Second week on the coast was better weather.
Last year she went to Sri Lanka. Flew on 24th/25th. First part on an organised group trip through the interior at which she met others who were staying on. Chose where to stay based on where some of the others were, so spent the next 3, yes 3, weeks on the south coast. She took her laptop and got the ok from her work to work from there for and extra week, so she had breakfast, the surfing lessons, then worked in the afternoon into the evening. She loved Sri Lanka, but her country of choice would be Cambodia. What has worked for her is an organised group at the beginning, and joining others she meets for the latter part of the holiday. She has met quite a few people on these trips that she keeps in touch with and meets up with when she can. We are dead envious of her experiences so go for it while you can.

Barbados for me! Gorgeous weather, lovely people, amazing food and rum punch, very safe! If you're on a bit of a budget like we were, top tip is use the shared transport system when out and about instead of cabs! They have numbers on each mini bus and take a certain route, but you can get on and off wherever you are and need to go if there is space. We saw the whole island this way

Mercedesbenz2022 · 29/08/2022 13:16

Gran Canaria , melanaries or Mogan
both lovely resorts , upmarket , lots of lovely restaurants and fabulous beach

midsomermurderess · 30/08/2022 17:25

Kerala. I was there once in December and the weather was great. Stay out in the backwaters for a few days, maybe up in to the Nilgri mountains for a few days, then a few days by the beach.

What is it with this scare-mongering shit?!

I've travelled to Mexico, DR and Jamaica solo and never had a problem.

Just keep your wits about you as you would anywhere.

They have shootings in London, don't they?!

Anyway, Op, wherever you decide to go have a great time.

Rtmhwales · 30/08/2022 17:51

I went to Thailand for Christmas solo at 24 or 25. Best Christmas ever.
