I'm taking my teens on a road trip in October and having 3 nights in Vegas. My daughter is Elvis mad and seems to think shell be able to summon his ghost in Vegas! I'm keen to see the desert and the Neon Boneyard. Any hotel recommendations? We want a pool and to be on The Strip - probably. I'm getting confused by the choice and very differing reviews, as well as the whole idea of resort fees, which I cant work out - are they on top of room rates? And I want a good deal - obviously. Anyone got any recommendations?

We are in Vegas for 10 nights in November, just book the Vdara(MGM) ....its attached to the Aria but doest have a casino - so no disgusting cigarette smells . We are travelling with kids too and wanted a space to cook our own food as can't face restaurant for for that long .

I took my daughter a couple of years ago for 2 nights and we stayed at Harrah’s Las Vegas on the strip

I booked a cheaper room for $70 for 2 nights but we were upgraded to a huge suite!
I recommend the Papillon Helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon - the tour bus picked us up from Harrahs. The helicopter pilot was from Leeds!
have fun!

And yes, resort fees ($25?) are on top of hotel rates

TanteRose · 28/08/2022 06:35

also I booked through Booking.com - very smooth

Yes resort fees are on top. So allow rates or be plus 40$ ish a night. And some properties charge for parking now so might need to add that on too.

Do you want a fancy pants hotel? Are you okay with a casino hotel? Do you care about room size? Do you want to be right in the action?

MGM and Mandalay bay have great pools with lazy rivers, Mandalay bay is not the most convenient location.
Paris is central and I think at least one of their pools is open year round so would be okay in oct when some hotels may have started to close their their pool areas.
Bellagio, Caesars, mirage have good pool areas and are all central and have loads to see and do. Mirage has recently been sold and has very cheap rooms for some dates.

If it's in budget cosmopolitan is central and you can get a balcony overlooking the fountains which is great fun.

If you want a non casino hotel look at Elara, it's right by planet Hollywood and attached to the same mall which has good cheap food places in.

The most budget friendly on strip will likely be flamingo, harrahs, Linq, ballys/horseshoe, Luxor, Excalibur. They're all fine, not the best, not the worst.

Don't stay at Rio it's like a ghost town.

Very helpful information here, I too am planning a trip to Vegas as part of a bigger trip.

Park MGM is a non smoking properly in a good location. It’s close to some of the must see locations but in itself is quite quiet and low key. Has some great places to eat though. It does have a casino but it isn’t huge like some of the others.

If she’s an Elvis fan then it would have to be the Westgate, if you can deal with being further away from the action. It’s what was the Las Vegas Hilton. I’ve stayed in most hotels in Vegas ( including this one) as we don’t live far and we’ve been around 30 times. It’s not a great hotel but it is iconic. The Aladdin hotel (where Elvis got married) has been demolished and the Planet Hollywood is there now.

Our favorite is the Cosmopolitan. The terrace suites. Luxor was awful. We also like the Signature Suites at MGM Grand. But they have a habit of randomly closing pools for no apparent reason.

Aw I stayed in the Luxor when I got married. I remember it as being really cool with amazing desert views but I guess Vegas moves on!

Bunchymcbunchface · 07/09/2022 20:19

Going to vegas next April to get married.
staying in the Venetian Palazzo, then going to Death Valley, Hoover Dam and on to the Grand Canyon, then back to Vegas to the Bellagio for 2 nights before we fly home.
resort fees & taxes are usually added on top of room rates. Book direct with hotels you usually get a better rate. Rooms are cheaper Monday to Friday too.
loads of room reviews on Tiktok where you can get a real idea of what the rooms are really like.

have a great time x

We liked Elara - it's a non casino hotel and very handy for everything- shops, food and right in the middle of the strip.

Twinklesun · 07/09/2022 20:24

Signature was also good as you can also use the MGM pool but i preferred Elara location.

honeyrider · 07/09/2022 23:16

I've booked the Jockey Club for a couple of nights next April. Just need to sort our accommodation for LA and Vancouver.

Check that your hotel will allow your teens in the pool.

We stayed in The Flamingo and despite having a fantastic huge pool area my DC were only able to use a very small selection of it - the other areas were adults only.
