My DH and I are off to Menorca in September and wondering if anyone had any tips on restaurants, places to see etc. We also wondering what the public transport was like. We're staying in Biniancolla. Thanks.

Can't comment on Bianicolla. But the busses in general was easy to use to get to Mao. Resort areas didn't really have great restaurants. The more city like areas had more options. Sorry, not evry useful but didn't want to read and run!

Ahh, thank you @Rewis - that's helpful to know :)

I went to Menorca in October 2019 (So things will have changed following Covid).
We bought a guidebook (Kindle - so we both had access) and hired a car (so I am unable to give you any information about public transport).

There are lots of places to visit/things to do, depending upon your interests.

There are plenty of stunning coves, rock pools and beaches. Most are fairly accessible by car and parking was mostly free. The larger beaches have bars (and toilets).

We drove carefully and slowly up Monte Toro (the highest point) with incredible panoramic views of the island.

There are a number of pre-historic sites on the island and we visited two (which the guidebook provided us with information on).

I would highly recommend the quarry at Lithica (it was the unexpected highlight of my holiday).

Parking was difficult at the port in Ciutadella but we enjoyed our guidebook walking tour. We went on a short boat trip here and there are plenty of places to eat out. Mahon also has a great harbour, restaurants and bars. We were AI (and the hotel made first class picnics) so we did not eat out - although we had a few drinks!

Other trips we made include a massive fort - Fortress of Isabel II, a boat trip around the island and Cova d'en Xoroi (caves/night club) to watch the sunset.

We really enjoyed our time and I hope you have a good holiday too!

Thanks so much @LittleLlama! That's really helpful! I'm thinking we might end up hiring a scooter/car for a few days. Can I ask, why was the quarry such a highlight? I'm just intrigued!

(And I ask that as a person who found the protestant cemetery a personal highlight in Rome)

So a brief description (with help from my guide book)

The quarry closed in 1994 and it is run by a non-profit foundation.

Part of the quarry has become a series of different themed gardens. These are not perfect pretty gardens but wild, overgrown gardens which have been thoughtfully planted. (I think by some of the people who use to work there). The fragrance from some of these gardens was incredible.

The other part of the quarry is a kind of art installation (which according to the guide book was about “returning the stones to the quarry…giving back to nature”. It was a unique place to visit.

We went late afternoon and there was hardly anyone there but I think it is much more popular now. Hopefully there are also better sign to find it. If you go, try not to go in the heat of the day and take water.

We just got back from Menorca and I also recommend you hire a car. We used Valls as recommended by our hotel and had no issues. Binidali was a great beach to drive to first thing - stunning!

We had lots of great food seafood and salads in Mahon.

That looks amazing @LittleLlama! Thank you! It's definitely on my list now :)
