1st holiday abroad with young children

Hi
We are looking to go abroad for the 1st time with children next year. Have only ever done couples holidays before.

I wondered if people could give me some ideas of where would be good please. On initial research I am thinking one of the canary islands, one of the baleric islands, or one of the Greek Islands. But there are just so many places to choose from.

Kids will be 3.5yrs and 8yrs. Want to avoid too hot, so will probably avoid july/aug, and maybe aim for may half term- and think the above destinations look OK weatherwise in May?

Things we are looking for:

I think 4hrs flying time is max.

Family friendly, but not a massive resort.

Sand beaches and blue seas that are safe for young children and not too crowded, preferably walking distance from resort.

We probably wouldn't hire a car, so again some family friendly restaurants or a town within walking distance.

Possibility of a day trip or two to another town, beach, historical sights.

Hopefully what I have asked for makes sense lol.

Please hit me with ideas for destinations. Even better would be specific resorts, and hotels.

Many thanks.

What board basis do you prefer and very rough budget for a week in May?

Hi @sammysal

We haven't got that far yet - trying to whittle down destinations first.

At the moment we would consider any level of board and then obviously budget would change depending on the board level, but maybe £1500-£2000. Hoping that's a realistic ball park......

Go to Menorca. You can’t go wrong there for family holidays. The beaches are incredible and very safe. It’s very small so the transfers are short, most of the flights are in the day and it’s about 2~2.5hrs.

To narrow down I'd look at Greek islands first- probably warmest and cheapest (and lovely!)
