Views on Zante please, recommended accommodation would be even better!

I am still in search of the perfect holiday - has anybody been to Zante? Would you recommend it? What about accommodation?

To reiterate from a previous thread this is what I'm looking for:
have two dds (4 and 6) and am looking for a beach holiday in Europe in somewhere that has enough going on but not too ?British? a doesn't have loads have package holidays. Would like self catering (2 bed apt ideally), somewhere with a pool (plus children?s pool) with some activities for children (not necessarily a kids clubs); within walking distance of town/beach. Driving distance of somewhere with local tradition/culture.

Hi ! We went to Zakynthos/Zante last year - We went to Periyali with Simpson which was brilliant. It was in a 'real' part of Greece and had all the things you're looking for (except walking distance of a town - you can walk to a number of restaurants though).

Avoid the big places like Laganas which are the big beach resorts where you could be anywhere.

what hotel did u stay in?

I stayed in Alikanas/Alikes on Zante - was quite unspoilt but that was 10 years ago. Probably changed. Lovely beaches, olive groves, nice friendly locals.

We tryed to book the Alikanas but it isn't available when we want to go (half-term). I've also send a request to Simpson about the Periyali and I'm waiting to hear back....fingers crossed.
