Tips for flying with a 5MO?

Hello 🙂

Due to travel in 3 weeks with my 5MO (will just be a few days shy of 6 months when we travel) to costa del sol from Glasgow.

FTM and me and DP are both slightly nervous flyers so tips welcome!

Already planning on taking the baby carrier on the flying with us.

Tips for flying please?

Great age to travel with! They’re a dream at that age!

One or two toys/teethers, enough milk and more for the journey in case of delays. Spare clothes and nappies!

Dummy/bottle for take off, and generally a well napped baby will also help.

Use Boots click and collect for anything you need between going through security and arriving at your destination www.boots.com/shopping/airport-click-and-collect Order twice as much of the essentials (nappies, milk etc…) than you’ll think you need. If your plane becomes severely delayed or canceled, you will thank me.
Definitely use early boarding.
Gate check your stroller/buggy. You’ll probably need to request gate check tags from the gate agent at the airport. Gate checked items will typically be waiting for you by the plane when you disembark. Sometimes, though, they get put into baggage claim. Check with your airline before your flight regarding their gate check policy.
When you check in online, choose your seat carefully. Research the best and worst places to sit with a baby.
Take lots of layers for your 5mo and a spare top for both you and your DH.

Depending on where you are going, I would buy nappies there. DS was 5 months on his first trip, he was easy.

Calpol just before take off to help ear soreness

To echo what others have said 5 months is the easy age! We flew lots short-haul and uk with our twins at that sort of age as my in laws live miles away (uk)and then part of the year in the Costa del sol. Yes spare tops for you. I would buy nappies there but if you formula feed I'd take that as brands are different. Also, and this may have changed as mine are 8 now but ready made little bottles of formula that are handy for planes were not widely available in Spain and when we did find them were super expensive so if that's still the case I would take them out and keep some for the way back. Also, most airlines allow you a certain number of baby items for free so I'd take advantage of that and maybe check the car seat if you need one when there. You can by car seat protection bags on ebay that are good.

Thanks so much for this. Very helpful.

We always buy the little aptimal ready made bottles from Costco so we're already taking plenty of those as well as powdered milk.

I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing as she's a great baby and loves her sleep! She's easily entertained 🤣

Will make sure I take a change of clothes/top for DD and myself, toys, calpol and plenty of milk incase of delays!

I know it’s been said but you need a full change of clothes for you, not just a top. Nappy/milk overspill can go everywhere when in a small plane seat, and you don’t want that all over you when you start your holiday!
