Travel Money Dilemma

Travelling to Europe soon and not sorted out any currency yet. It's only for 3 nights so was wondering whether to just take cash or should I get one of those prepaid cards (Revolut or Wise according to Martin Lewis)! Also Post Office do one but reviews are terrible.

The Starling travel debit card also sounds great but I don't really want to open another bank account just for that, and besides I don't travel often at all so not sure if it's worth it.

Oh and with Monzo, when we're back home, I just transfer any balance back onto my normal bank accounts (although they're a great bank, would have no issues having them as our main bank other than we've got so much tied up with our current (excellent) bank).

I got a new credit card for holidays (Halifax clarity card) because it doesn't charge extra fees for transactions in foreign currencies which my other credit and debit cards do.

We have a post office card that our kids use when going on holiday.
As they'd only be spending £500-£800 the exchange rate and various charges are neither here nor there.
This means the money is safe and card is accepted everywhere.
Never had a problem.

I'm with Lloyds whose transaction charges are quite high. I think I'll consider Starling, or the Currensea card also looks good because I can just link it to an existing account and use it like a debit card - no pre-loading.

We went to Canada recently and used Applepay on our phones pretty much everywhere. Some places don't take travel money cards so I think they're a bit limited.

I love my Post Office Travel card it works a dream!

What happens when you come home and you still have money on it? Do you just transfer it back into your bank account ?

We are going abroad soon and think the post office card is our preferred choice.

Revolut is my favourite for app features and transparency and having best rates.

Revolut is great. The virtual card is used like Apple Pay and then I've used the rest in this country when back off holidays.
