It is DH special birthday in September and I’m trying to find a luxury/boutique coastal hotel (4 or 5 star) near to a surfing / bodyboarding beach to spend the weekend away. He is adamant that there is nothing he wants for his birthday and he doesn’t want a big party he just wants to spend his birthday as our family of four. DS10 and DD7. As it is a special birthday I’d like to do something a bit special so would like to book a weekend away. He loves bodyboarding with the children and surfing and we regularly visit Croyde which he calls his happy place. So if you have any ideas of really nice hotels near surfing/bodyboarding beaches please give me some ideas. We live just outside Lichfield, near Birmingham so willing to consider places within a 3 hour drive. All suggestions welcome. Keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll have a few options to consider 😊

Crantock Bay Self Catering Apartments or Fistral Beach Hotel :)

Tootired1 · 14/08/2022 20:16

Thank you - Fistral Beach Hotel looks fantastic but it’s adults only. It would have been ideal if we could have taken the children.

I had no idea they were adults only! There's lots in this area, I'll have a think and come back to you.

Any near Crantock Bay would be really fun! X

St Brides Hotel in Saundersfoot, West Wales.

MrsFerguson · 14/08/2022 20:20

How about Bedruthan Hotel?

MrsToadflax · 14/08/2022 20:20

Watergate Bay Hotel.

ThereIsATInWater · 14/08/2022 20:22

Watergate Bay would be my obvious choice.

It's where the boardmasters surfing comp is.

Tootired1 · 14/08/2022 20:26

Thank you for suggestions. Just going to Google them all now 😊

Saunton Sands Hotel and spa, north Devon. Beautiful long surf beach.
www.sauntonsands.co.uk I don’t know why I can’t paste the link,

www.stmoritzhotel.co.uk/ near Polzeath, Cornwall

verytired42 · 14/08/2022 20:36

Bedruthan is ace.

Tootired1 · 14/08/2022 20:43

I did think of Saunton Sands as we drive past it regularly when staying in Croyde and it ticks all of our boxes but thought I’d try and find somewhere new to explore. We’ve just come back from two weeks in Croyde.

St Brides looks fab and somewhere different. I don’t think they have family rooms from what I can see but they do have serviced apartments. Have you stayed in them and can you still use all of the hotel facilities?

Just going to check out Bedruthan and Watergate Bay now. Really appreciate all of the suggestions 😊

Rhosneigr on Anglesey. Great surfing and Sandy Mount hotel isn't bad.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 14/08/2022 20:59

Woolacombe Bay?

MrsFerguson · 14/08/2022 21:14

@Tootired1 you just inspired me to book a hotel room at one of these hotels for our wedding anniversary!

LaPampa · 14/08/2022 21:24

The esplanade is next door to fistral beach hotel and is family friendly. At the other end of fistral is the headland hotel (which is only 5* in cornwall and both family and surfing holiday friendly)

also try Polzeath beach house at new polzeath as another option but there’s less to do in Polzeath than Newquay and the hotel only has one restaurant.

watergate bay hotel has several restaurants and is lovely.

carbis Bay hotel if you’re feeling very fancy

LaPampa · 14/08/2022 21:25

There is also sands hotel above Porth beach

and bedruthan at mawgan porth. Scarlet also lovely but no kids.

we spend a lot of time down in the North Devon/Cornwall area (just done a week in Croyde now on to Perranporth). The nicest place I’ve stayed was Watersmeet Hotel in Woolacombe. Woolacombe Bay is also lovely. The Headland at Fistral has undergone renovation and has a lovely spa and overlooks Fistral beach.

IggyAce · 14/08/2022 21:29

Rushpool Hall Saltburn.

applecatchers36 · 14/08/2022 21:30

Would second the headland hotel and spa. Is family and dog friendly hotel. Next to fistral beach for great surfing. Perfect for a special birthday.

Sauvignonblanket · 14/08/2022 21:56

Just back from Saundersfoot - it's wonderful but definitely not a bodyboarding hotspot, sorry, there was barely a wave. There's a local surf company who cover the whole area and it looks like there are some good beaches nearby in the right season. I hope you find somewhere though, it's a lovely idea.

Tootired1 · 14/08/2022 22:07

@MrsFerguson Aw, good for you. Happy Anniversary and I hope you have an awesome time. I’m still googling all of the suggestions. I want to try them all 😂

I would say yes to using the St brides facilities when staying in the serviced apartments.

Saundersfoot itself doesn't have great surfing but you are a stones throw away from some fab spots
