Please help, they are so incredibly expensive, and I'm really struggling to find anything reasonably priced. We'll be there in October for 3 nights then again in November on our return leg.

Been to NYC but it was 15 years ago and we stayed at the Roosevelt, but it's closed down unfortunately.

Any advice from people who have visited recently would be so helpful.

Thank you.

We stay in an area we wish to see in some detail with decent transport links to other sites. So do you want to be central or are you prepared to commute from somewhere like Brooklyn or Queens?

I like the SoHo area but it’s not touristy, although it has special charms. But it’s a bit remote for the Met Museum! So it does depend what you want! NY has never been cheap and rooms are small.

We have stayed in a one bedroom suite at the Michaelangelo Hotel. They can provide sofa bed in the living area and this keeps cost a bit more reasonable. It’s a good central location and I see it’s been refurbished since we stayed there. It is very good. We also stayed at the SoHo Grand. Plus a few more expensive ones.

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in Manhattan’s Financial District. Not the most glamorous area but it was a good hotel, cheap for NYC standards, and really well connected to all the main sights. Within walking distance to WTC and 9/11, Brooklyn Bridge, Soho / Chinatown / Little Italy, the Staten Island Ferry… Easy subway ride to upper Manhattan for the rest of the sights.

I think they are often cheaper if booked in conjunction with flights...would someone like trailfinders or Expedia be able to help with a package of some kind? Else if budget is an issue I'd go with a well known chain and join their loyalty programme, loads are quite stylish now!
