Travelling abroad with baby…formula advice

Hi everyone

We're due to travel with our (will be) 6 month old in September.

Has anyone has any experience with travelling with an infant who dietary needs? Our son is on Aptamil Pepti formula because of his cows milk allergy. We are going abroad for 2 weeks so I will need to take quite a lot of his formula. The dietician told me some airlines offer free suitcase allowance if a baby has special feeding needs in order to carry the formula, does anyone know this to be true?

...if he were on a normal formula I would just order it to pick up at boots at the airport but unfortunately I can't do this 😩
I have tried calling jet2 twice now and been on hold for a life time.

If it comes to it I will just pay to add an extra suitcase to our booking. He doesn't get a suitcase as he's under 2 so will be sat on my lap on the plane.

Also, what do I do about actually taking the formula he will need for the journey through security at the airport? And sterilised water?

You will need to also check the rules for the country you are departing from to fly back to the UK.

Taking formula through security is no problem, or made up bottles you just take it out your bag. Don’t know about extra allowance. I’ve not flown jet2 but EasyJet let you take a baby bag when they are on your lap so you could put in there.
btw it’s the formula you need to sterilise, with hot water x

It was years ago now but we took a massive box of baby milk to Majorca, the Airline took it for free, you just unscrewed the lid and good to go, it was actually easy as no sterilising etc

Fairly easy taking milk through security. Made bottles or even just flasks of water.

regarding taking the formula, is your baby in solids?
When taking LO away at 7 weeks I totally overpacked his milk for 6 days. So when I took him at 4 months, beforehand just calculated how long one tub lasts me. And took a bit more as an incase. great place to start.

one thing you can do is if your taking a pram, put in a pram bag and put a tub or two in there, if you’re struggling for luggage….

You can make up formula with Evian.
