Windsurf holiday & young kids

Anyone here married to a mad windsurfer? How do you square finding a summer holiday destination that keeps him and the kids happy? Either he'll need to hire a car and drive (and gone for half a day), or the hotel is too basic. I am looking at Greece, but open to suggestions.

We’ve stayed at the following places with our dc:
Martinhal Sagres www.martinhal.com/sagres/water-sport-centre-2/
Crvena Luka www.crvena-luka.hr/en/active-sport/windsurfing
Camping La Rive www.campinglarive.co.uk

We have just come back from Bibione in Italy. There were lots of surfers there but it's also super kids-friendly with lots of activities for kids. Village Turistico Internazionqle would be an ideal resort as it has lots of pools with numerous slides (also for small kids) and is right in the beach near a windsurfing school.

Mark Warner holidays. Wind surfing is included in your holiday, but lots of everyone else to do.

Or Neilson. I don't know which of their sites is best for windsurfing nowadays though.

Thank you! The Algarve one is too expensive but looks great. Will check the one in Croatia and the French site in more detail! Thanks!!

Thank you! Neilson used to be our top choice pre-kids. Absolutely loved Dahab and been many times. But they closed their best windsurf locations (Turkey & Egypt). The current ones (at least those in Greece, except Vass) cater more for sailing and other activities than windsurfing. But also their prices are ridiculously expensive now and the Vass location feels too much of a compromise for that price (£2k pp on a b&b basis).

Torbole, north lake Garda. The whole town is devoted to windsurfing. We self catered, kids windsurfed am, the experts pm. The lake is magnificent, you can get ferries around the place, Riva del Garda also has lots of accommodation. I loved it, lovely town to stay in. We stayed in Casabertolini.com

I feel your pain, I've got a DH who is also into a wind based sport, spent hours researching where we can go.I've been to many a beautiful but v.basic beach place in the middle of No where pre-kids. I might look up some of these places.

Also - have a look at planetkitesurf for inspo. Not the same sport, but gives you an idea of where might have wind and a beach and a nice hotel.

Minorca Sailing, they have really decent windsurfing kit to excite your husband but also kids clubs. The accommodation is in villas, hotel or apartments. It is lovely there.

pastaandpesto · 14/08/2022 14:03

OP, why are you the one researching how to accommodate your DHs needs here? If he is the one dictating the location for a family holiday based on indulging his hobby, shouldn't he be the one doing the bloody legwork?!

Cloud9a · 14/08/2022 16:35

Thank you. While putting a note here, I am waiting for a callback from planet windsurf. Hopefully will find sth great where we can all enjoy ourselves:)

Haha! It looks like that, maybe there should be a dadsnet! But his mates have grown up kids &/or comfortable enough to afford a separate windsurf trip off season.
