Afternoon
I will look myself in a bit, promise(!) but just in case any of your DC have done any recentish interrailing in any of the five cities above...Would appreciate names of hostels they stayed in, if they would again of course.
Also any hostels that were a nightmare (safety, bedbugs, no wifi, heat) to avoid.
DD has found three hostels in three other cities but any tips would make it quicker as she is trying to look them up between pub shifts (which is paying for said travel but she is knackered after it). Much appreciated. Thanks in advance Flowers

Haven't stayed in a hostel for a long time but I remember wombat hostels (had many across europe) were always very new/clean and safe. I would always book with wombat if there was one in the city I was going to.

If you're travelling with someone else, I often found was just as cheap to find a cheap double hotel room so you don't have to share with strangers or share a bathroom.

Enjoy x

Yellow Square in Rome

Thank you both. She is travelling alone. Much braver than me!

Ooh. Yellow square looks promising. Sadly, Wombat in Venice looks like it's permanently shut. They only opened 2019 but Covid did for them.

I wouldn't stay in Venice, far too crowded and expensive, one day will do it really. Suggest they stay in Padua, half an hour away from Venice by train. Trains are cheap in Italy. Lovely little city on its own and the University may let out student accommodation in the Summer. Worth checking out maybe? Depends on when she is going though!
I do echo pp that sharing a room in a cheaper hotel is often as economical as a hostel. Although I suppose they meet up with more people in hostels, so that's a factor.
Sorry, but my days of interrailing are long gone so I don't have much experience of recent hostelling! Wish I was young again sigh....
