Hello!
thinking of taking the kids from Wales to Ireland on the ferry. Their passports have not arrived! Do we need them does anyone know? I keep reading different things. Thank you to anyone who knows!

No passports needed for UK-Ireland ferry.
Bring ID for adults and birth certs for kids if they have no other ID just in case.

I can’t find the source now but our DC passport was delayed and that was the advice on a ferry website.
We had no ID checked at all on either crossing

British Citizens do not need a passport… but you do need photo ID

Apparently a birth certificate (if you feel ok lugging that around) also works for under 18s

No, you can take their birth certificates

Thank you for the reply!
one of the delayed passports has the birth certificates 🙁.
I have passports for 2 out of the four kids but it’s good to know they don’t check all the time… need to decide whether to risk it!

Has anyone taking the ferry ever been asked for their ID? We weren't a couple of weeks ago.

You can order copies of birth certificate online through the council where they were born. Takes a few days and there's a fee of course.

They do sometimes check for ID. I’m Irish and we were checked before coming back into Dublin on the ferry.

Have you been checked in the car though or were you a foot passenger? DP's made the journey many times and never been asked and I haven't been on the few occasions I've done it in the car with him.

Oh my word! I never thought of this! Thank you! I’m going to get on it first thing in the morning. Thank you
