How bad is the queues at Gatwick Airport?

Hi, I am going on holiday tomorrow my flight departs at 20.45 and was wondering if anyone who has been there recently can tell me about the queues.

It varies each day tbh I’ve flown from there 3 times this summer - once was a breeze sailed through (flight at 10.45am)

next 2 times being 3 hours early was just about right - had luggage to drop and just had time to grab a sandwich to take away for the plane before going to my gate.

We flew out a week ago. We were through check in and security in less than half an hour. Plane took off on time too.

Do you need to check in or drop any luggage? If so, I'd do 2.5 hours. 2 hours or just under that if travelling on hand luggage only.

We flew out about 10 days ago on a 9.30am flight. No more queues than for pre-pandemic times. We arrived 2 hours before and had plenty of time.

Going out seems to be fine. Last couple of days returns have been a nightmare - delayed flights, can't get off plan and an hour's wait for luggage once in luggage hall.
See Quantas have requested all their management help with baggage handling - wish the UK would do the same!

I flew out last Sunday at 5.30pm, quickest through security it's ever been. Straight through, no queues

Just come back from holiday last week, it was the smoothest departure and arrival I’ve ever experienced. No hold ups , couldn’t believe it
