Lindos/Rhodes in May?

Almost booked a really good deal on a holiday to Lindos next May, but then hesitated in case the weather isn't great. DS will be 4 and the hotel has some beautiful pools and it's right on the beach, no point paying for those facilities if the weather is too cold!
I went to Rhodes about twenty years ago and remember something about a geographical quirk means Lindos is always a bit warmer than the rest of the island. It definitely was then, it was around 40 and too much for a young child.
Ideally we'd go next September but he starts school.
We won't be at the hotel all day every day, will hire a car and get out and about so it doesn't matter if it's not blazing sunshine all day every day. Just a bit concerned about freezing water temperature. None of the pools are heated.

Looking at the first two weeks of May and then the prices ramp up (I'm guessing with good reason).
Anyone a regular to Rhodes or live there?

When we went in Mid May it was about 24c which was perfect for us as i struggle when it gets much hotter 😳 the kids went in the sea but they did have wet suits on some of the days

May is beautiful there, you can view the usual/past temperatures online. We got married there many years ago, we've been back lots, my favourite spot on the planet

You're right, Lindos is a good 5-8 degrees hotter a lot of the time. It doesn't seem to get breezes like the rest of the island so I'd say the temperatures will be perfect in May. Can you look at reviews of other hotels in Lindos that were written in May to see if anyone mentions how hot it is?

@SwimmingOnEggshells that's a good idea. Oh I think we might just book! It'll be nice going back so many years later 😁

I did a couple of summer seasons in Lindos in my youth, and May is usually glorious. Very warm but not scorching.

It's still one of my favourite places in the world. I haven't been back since I married and had kids - I've been saving it up for when the kids are teens, and can enjoy the independence of roaming round a small, safe but fun and friendly village without parental supervision.

Regular in Rhodes I was born there and got married in Lindos! It can be very hit or miss in May to be honest, been in May and rained, been in May and it was hot just have to take the risk or go later

Wondering if you've booked Lindos Bay (Vliha) rather than Lindos itself?

RewildingAmbridge · 06/08/2022 21:17

Hotel is about 4 miles outside lindos itself

I think you should, Lindos is so beautiful, I was there in the summer but only on a day trip. Fabulous!

AuntieMarys · 06/08/2022 21:41

We went first week in May a few years ago and it was 35 degrees!

Lindos is absolutely gorgeous! I'm wo jealous. We have holidayed in Rhodes twice (once in Faliraki and once just outside of Lindos). It's SO beautiful and the sea is glorious. It's my daughter's favourite place for a holiday. She keeps asking for us to go back, even though I have taken her to many different holiday destinations around Europe. She now wants to convince my parents to go with her to Rhodes.

RewildingAmbridge · 06/08/2022 22:22

Booked for the 17th - 23rd May! Fingers crossed for the weather!

@XelaM I went to faliraki with friends when I was about 19, it was a great holiday but different to the one I anticipate this time. Whilst the others recovered from hangovers around the pool, two of us took a quad bike from faliraki to Lindos and back, took us most of the day and we got so dusty (and tanned), the family who ran the hotel we stayed at were laughing at the crazy English girls who took a quad bike half way across Rhodes, but we were so glad we did it was beautiful.

Haha 😂 sounds fab. I went to Faliraki with my daughter (she was around 9 at the time) and we stayed at the Cyprotel. It was amazing, as the hotel had a waterpark and she made friends by the pool and although we didn't enjoy the Faliraki nightlife in the same way ( 😅) we loved wandering out in the evenings and looking around the souvenir shops and cafes among the hustle and bustle. The beach was also amazing.
